Keres is Death, or rather one of many deaths. Born into the position of a reaper uncountable years ago. She was once one of many entities charged with transporting souls from the realm of the living to that of the dead.
Intelligent beyond the average person, she comes across as almost all-knowing, although her personality is surprisingly laid back. Almost always smiling at least a little bit, she is almost never surprised by anything (having probably seen it all before,) and appears to worry about very little. While she may be death incarnate, this does not make her cruel. Her personality comes across as kind and many have said that her presence is more of a comfort than anything else.
Her job was not to terrify mortal souls, but to sever them from their dead shells and take care of them as they travel.
However, after so many years of reaping souls is it so odd that one would eventually grow bored? Deciding that it was time to retire and take it easy for the rest of her unending life, Keres began the search for someone special, a replacement.
Enter Cass. After a fateful encounter including a dark, stormy night and one out of control car, Keres gifts Cass with special abilities, intending to eventually make her the next reaper.
