A few weeks ago, I made this piece and titled it Fine Art. I first heard the words "fine art" on a field trip to the Getty during the summer with my after-school program, Ability First. After seeing paintings and sculptures at the Getty, I became more curious about fine art, so I looked up the meaning. Here's the definition I found:
fine art • n. 1. (also fine arts) creative art, esp. visual art, whose products are to be appreciated primarily or solely for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content. 2. an activity requiring great skill or accomplishment: he'll have to learn the fine art of persuasion.
A few days later, I saw a painting of a car and another painting of the Downtown Los Angeles cityscape at my friend Jesse's house. It inspired me to create my own piece and call it Fine Art.
I used foil, acrylic paint, and a crossword puzzle on canvas. To make my piece, first I cut the foil with scissors, then I glued the foil triangles, circles, and squares on top of a crossword puzzle. Finally, I painted over the foil shapes and the crossword puzzle to add more color to my painting.
With this piece, I hope to make more fine art and learn more about how to become a fine artist.
