Diana Wynne Jones
i know i talk a lot about what i love in dwj's work, but here's something i've been thinking about recently--
i love how she is talented enough to write all her POV characters, whether old or young or male or female or only children or having siblings or magical or mundane, with equal facility. there are certainly some character types that *i* gravitate toward more than others in her books, as a reader with my own tastes and background, but i'll never open a book of hers and think that her protagonist feels false. they're always perfectly themselves, which i think is an incredible feat to pull off across the kind of varied canon she has!
