genuinely can't think of a more iconic image than Mary Winchester's white nightgown , so let's start with that . i know this is fairly basic stuff , but bear with me .

something that we see most often in the early seasons of Supernatural is the classic white nightgown . the Madonna figure , meant to contrast the evil and impurity in the world — most often symbolized by the Demons . white is an interesting color in color psychology because while it most typically shows Purity , Innocence , and the Ideal Goodness ( all things that Mary and Jess are meant to represent as the elusive figures of Holy Women ) , it can also be symbolic of coldness , or distance . these idealized women are being drawn further from the truth of who they actually are and set upon a pedestal of holiness and innocence , instead becoming the Avenged One .

an interesting turning point we see is Jo Harvelle , who starts out as another Blonde Madonna : she is perceived as naive and in need of protection —

however , her white shirt is later covered by darker colors . the gray jacket that she wears in season 5 layers that same innocent white with a color that represents intelligence and , considering her death in the season , sadness .

it's after Jo that the perception of women begins to shift , and we see this with Lisa Braeden .

In his talk with Cecily, we can see that she's actually comfortable with him, she's not afraid of him like with Abaddon, she actually respects him, helping him out even though he's in chains.

Crowley asks her how's Hell and she tells him that it's a mess, that nobody's doing their job (implying that Crowley actually gave demons a job and a reason to stay in Hell, rather than just constantly torturing one another and making demons want to escape). It also shows how he actually cares about the demons there and the state of his kingdom, rather than just the position of power (which seems to be Abaddon's main, if not only goal).

Crowley also understands demons and their nature better than Abaddon, not scolding or threatening Cecily for playing both sides (he actually understands her and it shows how comfortable it makes her). It gives her insight into what a king should be, that's why she doesn't think to immediately lie to Abaddon and tell her that she tricked Crowley. She thought Abaddon would understand, like Crowley has, because that's what she grew to expect of her king; an understanding of their double sided, two faced nature.

This is also what makes him so confident that the demons accompanying Abaddon won't attack him. It's because he 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴, he knows that they're afraid, that they're not completely loyal to her, they're not loyal to anyone, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘴, they're only loyal to themselves and their interests.

Take me. You have my permission. You've been very entertaining, my dear. But I don't need your permission. Abaddon takes what she wants. And right now, she wants everything.
