Synopsis: Lantana is a story about Jaime Delfin who returns home after years of working abroad in Saudi Arabia. He left to be the sole provider for his family after the tragic death of their parents - but returns as a stranger to his siblings. He is welcomed by bitterness, struggle, and silence as he finds out that although relationships can be repaired, there are just some things that you can't bring back.
Background:Β Here it is online--finally! Initially, we wanted to do a documentary on migration until it eventually got revised into a short film on return migration. The three of us thought of making a sequence/one-shot film monologue because we wanted to emotionally anchor this issue through a "personal" dramatic delivery of the main character. After much deliberation, we decided to keep the monologue but only after everything has been set-out for it. The introduction and reveal of the characters were done through set design, camera movement, and dialogue and the absence of it. Realizing in the end that speaking can be just as painful and heartbreaking as silence. Feel free to ask the three of us any questions regarding the short. :)
