Gov. Jerry Brown recently signed several news bills into law that impact California water. We take a look at six of these, which include measures aimed at providing help for failing water agencies, cutting down on excessive water use and making the most of stormwater.
One of the biggest policy problems in California’s agenda setting is the lack of water and how to solve the state’s drought crisis. The biggest issue the drought causes, is insufficient water levels to irrigate our crops. It costs a lot of money to decide where the available water is transferred to, and it’s a big fight over who actually gets the water.
Currently in the State’s legislature is Assembly Bill 935, the bill is looking to spend $7 billion is pumps that will reverse the flow to South Valley of the San Joaquin Valley. The water would then be used to irrigate the Valley’s farm land. The bill is still a work in progress, since the bill is seeking to use $7 billion of the state’s money that still needs to be appropriate from the state’s budget.
