The mother of a #black Alabama grocer shot dead yards from his front door has invited the white police officer charged with his murder to the funeral. Aaron Smith, 23, was #arrested and charged on Wednesday with #murder for #killing Gregory Gunn, 58, in Montgomery at 3.20am on Thursday last week. Smith has been in jail since his arrest on Wednesday, with bond set at $150,000. Few details have emerged about the circumstances in which Gunn was shot, with state prosecutors saying only that they have enough probable cause to charge Smith. Gunn’s brother Kenneth told #WSFA that Smith, who is white, approached Gunn ‘not because he was doing anything wrong, but because he was black. He was black at three in the morning.’ Smith’s arrest came just days after the killing, unusually quick for officer-related shootings, news which has encouraged Gunn’s family. Aaryn Jordan, Gunn’s nephew, added: ‘I’m pretty sure my uncle is smiling down that justice has been served.
