The mother of a #black Alabama grocer shot dead yards from his front door has invited the white police officer charged with his murder to the funeral. Aaron Smith, 23, was #arrested and charged on Wednesday with #murder for #killing Gregory Gunn, 58, in Montgomery at 3.20am on Thursday last week. But in an extraordinary move Thursday, Nellie Ruth Gunn, Gregory’s mother, invited Smith to his funeral, saying: ‘All I want is justice.’ Nellie Ruth Gunn, the mother of Gregory Gunn who was shot dead outside his Alabama home last week, has invited the white police officer charged with his murder to the funeral It is not clear whether Smith would be able to attend the funeral, scheduled to take place on Saturday, even if he wanted to. Smith has been in jail since his arrest on Wednesday, with bond set at $150,000. Few details have emerged about the circumstances in which Gunn was shot, with state prosecutors saying only that they have enough probable cause to charge Smith. Gunn’s brother Kenneth told #WSFA that Smith, who is white, approached Gunn ‘not because he was doing anything wrong, but because he was black. He was black at three in the morning.’ Smith’s arrest came just days after the killing, unusually quick for officer-related shootings, news which has encouraged Gunn’s family. Aaryn Jordan, Gunn’s nephew, added: ‘I’m pretty sure my uncle is smiling down that justice has been served. Right is right, and wrong is wrong.’ #HeresMyThing #RIP #GregoryGunn #NellieRuthGunn #AaronSmith #AarynJordan #MontgomeryAlabama #Montgomery #Alabama
