One thing that always pissed me off about the show was how they handled Arya becoming an assassin in the most cliche and bullshit way possible. As someone once said, "To be an Assassin is 99% preparation and the bullet is an afterthought". GRRM wrote something fascinating; how an assassin would learn. Arya in the books learns acting, improvisation, spying, the gathering of information, languages, cooking, funeral rites, poison, business and trade- she learns so fucking much.
2) and the show? Barely a fraction of all that. They dedicate so much time to cleaning corpses and the game of faces and quarterstaff fighting, its like a misunderstanding of how assassins work. Knowing how to fight is useful, but the point of being an assassin is that you don't fight, you kill. The game of faces was at least an interesting concept, but then they use it to for the cattiness between Arya and the Waif, and pay it off to the shit show that was Arya vs Sansa. like, Arya's braavosi arc was so cool and so fascinating and then the show just wasn't interested.
I absolutely agree. The whole point of Arya’s arc in Feast and Dance was to learn invaluable skills, ones that set her up to be a queen or a councillor of some kind. So she learns poisons, detecting lies, mummery, disguises, fighting blind, cooking, trade, languages, etc. And in the show it’s just a few sessions with a quarterstaff and we’re done. It was completely ridiculous how simple they made it. It’s also why Arya used none of her training later on cause she didn’t get any! The game of faces was the one aspect that matched the learning in the books and they used it for absolutely nothing. GRRM said he could write a whole separate book just about Arya in Braavos, and they crammed all the interesting stuff into half a season, and made it boring as hell. We can just add this to the list of stuff the show fucked up that I might never get over,
After seeing that lovely Harry x Sansa fanart, I was reminded of this question I occasionally think about: why isn't Harry x Sansa more popular? Harry's handsome, compared the other men in Sansa's life (Sandor, Tyrion, Petyr Joffrey) he's nowhere near terrible, he's bound to be the lord of a region that's tailored to Sansa's interests and their storyline sounds borderline close to Pride and Prejudice. You think Stansas would be all over that. What gives?
That’s a very good question, nonny, and one I ask myself sometimes. Harry ticks all the boxes that stansas seem to want for Sansa: handsome, not much of an asshole, lord of his own region, fun, snarky almost-enemies-to-lovers vibes, so what gives?
I think it comes down to two things: 1. Jon is the one with an epic destiny. It’s hinted that he might be Azor Ahai, that he might be king, and they don’t want Sansa to be with someone as lowly as the Lord of the Vale and Warden of the East (in case it’s not obvious, my tone is very sarcastic). 2. Most Stansas are show-only and Harry is not in the show, and despite what they want you to believe, most have not read the books. Plus, Kit Harington is pretty.
Harry x Sansa is everything these people want Jonsa to be, right down to practically despising each other early on. Harry is also someone Sansa can manipulate, meaning she would basically be co-in charge of the Eyrie if they married. This is not something she could do with Jon, despite what the show suggests, and despite what these stansas wish. The Pride and Prejudice vibes are right there, literally in their first chapter together, so why don’t they like this ship? Heck, I like this ship, meaning I now like three (3) whole ships involving Sansa which is a very weird feeling for me.
It’s crazy they love to push Sansa on to Jon when Harry is standing right there, a young, hot, dumb, white boi just waiting to marry and worship her, so I wish they could take the ship that is tailor-made for them in canon and leave the rest of us alone.
Also, that beautiful art was drawn by @blndraws and everyone should go check out her stuff cause it’s bloody gorgeous! 💕
The one that’s even funnier than Jonsa is Sansa x Gendry.
Oh my gawd
Don’t even get me started on that. The shere lunacy of shipping these two is insane, and once again boils down to “Arya can’t have anything that Sansa doesn’t have” so suddenly Gendry gives up his hatred of stuck-up high-borns to get with Sansa, making Arya once again feel inadequate compared to her sister. It’s insane, has no canon basis, and these people are usually jonsa shippers too. It’s funny but also gross at the same time.
Just... no. No way.
I'm so unimpressed by game of thrones. This was my face watching the season finale 😐 i don't even care about the "deaths". Give me asoiaf 6 and i'll be happy ahahha
