SO, today was a FUNNNNN day indeed. I got banned, not kicked, BANNED from a facebook group I’ve been a part of for nearly god, 7 years or so. Artist Alley Network International. It’s one of a handful of larger facebook groups out there dedicated to helping people out with, you guessed it, artist alleys at cons. It’s a discussion group for topics like display help, manufacturing, and overall guidance and support. Today was not such a loving and kind day. Someone decided to post about the drama surrounding a voice actor recently. As you can see above I posted my two cents about it- we shouldn’t discuss it let it be elsewhere. Instead of being praised or applauded by an admin regarding this, instead one of the fellow admins decided that NO, I was WRONG, and that the topic SHOULD be discussed. Except the topic quite literally spiraled out of control within an hour of it being posted. It derailed into abuse and other non-artist stuff with people being drama filled butt hurt monsters. I was a victim of said butt hurt drama vile. During the commotion, and not wanting to confront said admin any longer I decided to just take the high ground and block her. I was done. I didn’t want to have anything else to do with her. Well, except in the group there is a rule stating one cannot block admins, as it can hinder them and whatnot from doing their job. I know, big mistake, and my fatal one. Within 5 minutes she took notice and poof, I was out. No longer on my shortcuts and when I searched it I got no results. Meaning, I was blocked right back. The girl up and blocked me back. You can bet I was stunned, and hurt. Since I was blocked I searched elsewhere to find a way to at least try and contact someone, anyone. I did find someone, who wasn’t the admin I had been fighting with as that would not help AT ALL. And I got what you see above. Short, to the point responses. Not even 2 hours later the response of “Yeah we discussed it, nope. Bye.” I never got a say. I never got invited to a group chat, or any means to discuss MY side of this whole mess. The worse, or rather funny thing, everyone else who I’m friends with IN the group said my posts on that topic were mysteriously ‘deleted’. I know this because they went looking for my posts to confirm what the hell happened. Luckily I took screen shots, though I don’t know how well that will do for me given I can’t rejoin. I doubt I ever will be allowed back. Do I want to go back? Yes, and no. I loved the resources the group provided. I loved seeing the other artists, their table displays, getting ideas for popular things and just being able to expand my horizons. I didn’t appreciate the drama, the obvious pandering to certain individuals, and blatant favoritism. It was apparent each week with the self promotion sundays, some would just get 100+ likes while others, myself included over the last few weeks, barely saw 2 likes (one of which was my own). I can blame facebooks new algorithms, but it was always the same people that got the same responses. (Sometimes from the admins) Heck even two admins are related. A bit unfair if you ask me. You can still join this group. I highly recommend it for all the references and great resources you can obtain from it. I do not recommend posting, period. Just don’t. It’s not a rumor, or a myth, the group does not care about you. Yeah I said it, the admins are jerks, they are in their own world. Admins, moderators, they’re meant to moderate, not be biased in any way. I get rules are there, but at the same time you made said rules. When someone asks to be judged fairly, and you simply ignore them, how do you think they feel? I have feelings too. It hurt to be shunned, to be a pariah among my fellow artists now. To be kicked I could have at least still enjoyed the resources and knowledge, but to be banned I can’t even glimpse at it. It hurts. They cut me off from a valuable resource, all because they couldn’t see past their bias.
