When you’ll ask for help. With my hands I will give you my heart.
Finally we are at comic 70, the last sprite comic I created for The (un)Amusing Adventures of Margaret and Friends on July 2, 2007. It contains a bombshell that, of course, is dropped out of nowhere because I’m a terrible writer. The bombshell being that the army is anti-gay.
There are two reasons for this revelation. One is fairly obvious, as you can see, Angel would seduce the ingenue, Anne, in three seconds so this does provide an actual, if minor, barrier for them being pairing up. Since Angel and Princess were planned to be in the army for a little while, I couldn’t rely on self-control alone to enforce the rule.
The second is that it allows for long term repercussions for joining this army. Up until now this army had been something Margaret was a part of because she wanted something to do. Now the organization is revealed to have a value system that Margaret was unaware of.
Finally, I have no idea where I got this background from, and I don’t even know if I still have it.
May 14, 2006 was when I posted Comic 57. Note I actually got back on my once-a-week schedule, even making up for the day I was late from the previous week.
This is hands-down the worst joke of the series, not just because it was a bad joke, but because it was centered on two characters who aren’t even my own, but from CVRPG.
Princess, IIRC, was only known as Princess and she only knew her father as the King. I presumed that her royal mother would also be only known to as Queen, the same name shared by the band. However, since Princess learned she was adopted, then she wouldn’t know who her biological mother is.
It has nothing to do with the characters in my comic and it adds nothing to the story, so it’s just a mountain of failure.
Comic #53 was posted January 15, 2006. The background for the first two panels is a background from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and provided by Renagadez. The two week delay was due making the sprite for the new character, CVRPG’s Angel. You see, at the time, the writer of CVRPG suggested I do a cross-over with two of his characters, Angel and Princess. Angel can create inter-dimensional portals and took Princess on a trip to the future. I went along with it, but of course, I’d have to sprite the characters and their portraits myself. As you can tell, I can barely edit sprites, and to frankensprite Angel was harder than I thought it would be because I couldn’t use Tactics Ogre: the Knight of Lodis’s angels (heroic or fallen) as a template for the portrait. For the portrait I used Alphonse’s portrait, one I initially intended to use for a female character, no less, then recolored the hair again and threw on some new duds make it look like him. For the actual sprite it’s just a Dollmage sprite merged with an female angelic sprite and recolored.
I will admit that dome of the inspiration for the visual design also comes from Emily McArthur from Misfile.
I realized that this juncture would be the perfect time to do the crossover on several fronts. None of the additional, major characters of mine would show up yet, so there would be fewer complications than when I did start expanding the cast. More importantly, fewer people means that it won’t seem as odd that Angel and Princess don’t mention the demi-human and other supernatural allies they encountered, because those creatures wouldn’t be here yet.
Finally, since these characters are by nature temporary, they’re the perfect way to develop my own without having to simply riff on the stage. I admit, it’s a little wrong to use someone else’s characters as props, but who said I was ever right?

Comic 52 was posted on January 1, 2006. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance background provided by Renagadez.
Anne was told previously she couldn’t quit, anyway, so it’s not as if she could walk away without any consequences. This is what happens when you let someone bully you around. You end up in situations without escape.
