Given the chance I would gladly hug you, you are my best friend, you are my closest friend, you’re artistically talented, you’re out of this world, you’re pretty cool, your blog makes me smile, I’m lucky to have met you, you’re a sweet cinnamon bun, I trust that you have my back, you are fun to be around.

I’ve not really talked about superstitions in the Ehlverse before, but there is a big one in Firebreathers that’s less superstition and more fantasy bigotry.

Basically, Ehlves are all born with some form of elemental magic, and those powers earn them the title of Mage. One of these elements essentially amounts to shadows, fears, and cognitive function in general. BUT because people are inclined to generalise and fixate on a single aspect of nuanced situations, these people are called Dark Mages.

And Dark Mages are supposedly bad luck, an omen of disaster, death, insanity - anything terrible that could be feasibly pinned on a person will inevitably be pinned on a Dark Mage in the area, influencing events with evil behind their eyes.

Which is entirely false, but, y’know, it’s like the whole issue of black cats and dogs, where people logically know there’s nothing different about them, but they avoid them or hurt them anyway. Or how people are quick to pin awful crimes on the people who fit their particular definition of “suspicious”.

And I guess that’s kind of a mix of superstition and bigotry? But I haven’t really focused on the ‘good luck, bad luck’ stuff on Ehl, and so I don’t really have much else.
