Streamer Spotlight: A 1000 Years
A 1000 Years has been streaming for about a year and a half and is one of the fastest-growing full-time variety streamers on Mixer. You can find her playing anything from Apex Legends to Call of Duty, Dead By Daylight to Overwatch, and even PS4 exclusives such as Detroit: Become Human and The Last of Us. She loves being interactive with her AlienFam community and being able to create a safe, positive place for anyone to tune in to every night to escape daily life struggles. This year alone, AlienFam has reached over 55,000 followers and over 500+ subscribers, and donated over $13,000 to various charities last year, both local and national bodies, like The Foundation for Suicide Awareness.
What's the story behind your gamer tag?
Years ago, my mother gave me an Xbox 360 for Christmas, and my cousin helped set it up. My cousin asked her what she wanted the screen name to be, and she said a 1000 years because that was her favorite song by Christina Perry. Family is essential to me, and I am grateful that I get to carry this piece of my mother with me through my career.
Was there a specific moment that made you want to get into streaming?
I decided I wanted to start streaming after long nights of battling dark times. I needed a place to go and get out of my head. I thought going live might help me find people to talk to, laugh, and build new friendships around the world.
How do you approach toxicity and mental health?
Unfortunately, being a female in the gaming industry can get pretty tough. Behind a computer screen, people can say the most ruthless things. I remind myself that it’s just words from some random stranger who is battling something in their personal life; that’s why they feel the need to attack me. I try not to even react to trolls because it only feeds their addiction to online bullying. I look at it, brush it off, and focus on all the kind people in my stream. If you spend too much time getting caught up in the negative, rude people online, you’ll miss out on the positive, loving part of your community.
What is one of your favorite memories from interacting with the gaming community?
My favorite memories from interacting with the gaming community are the messages I get from my community about the positive impact I’ve made on their lives. I’ve been there through some peoples’ first children, marriages, new friendships, cross-country moves, break-ups, passings, losses of jobs, etc. Receiving messages from them about how tuning into my stream helped them get past rough times in their lives makes an incredible impact on me since I turned to them for help. Being able to go live every night and potentially add a smile to someone’s face during a dark period means a lot to me and keeps me going.
How is Sushi doing?
Sushi, formally known as just merely Fish, is our stream pet. The community submitted names for our stream pet Beta fish, and they decided on Sushi. He is doing awesome and is spoiled.
If you had to play one game for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only play one game for the rest of my life, it would easily be Kingdom Hearts 2. That game has such an incredible story, graphics, gameplay, and personal connection to me. I remember being young and playing it all night with my little sister back when she was just a baby. I will always hold that game close to my heart, and no matter how many times I play it, I’ll always love it the same.
Thanks, A 1000 Years! Make sure to give her Tumblr some love and check out her streams here!
