pages 383 and 385 panel b - I remember reading about scientists finding gold in the leaves of eucalyptus tree. Because eucalyptus trees have root systems that extend deep underground in their search for water, they sometimes intercept ore deposits. As part of their normal water uptake function the roots sometimes pull micro particles of gold up as well, and because the tree has no use for gold it ends up being stored in the tree’s extremities, the leaves, where it won’t cause anyone bother.
