I know this is overstated but the people are genuinely very friendly. I lived outside london for a year and coming home felt like stepping into a different world.

Cities with unis in them pretty much all have pretty good social set ups for the student population so you'll be able to meet folk easily and have a good social backdrop.

Scotland hasn't voted for a tory government in half a century so it's pretty liberal up here compared to England. The population is extremely white but Scotlands stance against brexit was deeply rooted in the country's celebration of immigration as a concept. God knows scottish people fuck off all over the world so our country couldn't survive without people coming and choosing scotland as their home.

Also some of our money has otters on it! It's not a perfect place, it's got problems like anywhere else (plus. Like a lot of rain.) but I hope if you do end up here you'll end up loving it here as much as I do.
