many things end up on mount crumpit. last year somebody somehow lost a canoe.

what concerns me is that this bell is older than whoville. older than the mountain. older than several concepts.and every few hours it rings for no apparent reason.

i have placed it in a cupboard.

The trick to fully enjoying Wire’s A Bell Is A Cup…(as well as The Ideal Copy) is to try and appreciate it in isolation from the group’s opening run.

Here Wire underwent a rather radical shift from pioneers to distillers, taking a post-punk style that was, by the late ‘80s, well-worn, and exploring within it. The result is an unpioneering but still driven, detailed, solid. A Bell is easy to enjoy for its hooks, songwriting and very decisive atmosphere – even if it noticeably lacks the group’s early ingenuity.
