When Teddy’s phone rang he had no idea who was calling because he had just recently trashed his phone by accident. He managed to keep the SIM card but unfortunately all numbers were saved on his phone so instead of a name showing up it was only the number. He knew her number all too well of course, but he didn’t pay attention to the screen so he just stayed silent for a moment after picking up to see who it was and that he could just hang up if it was someone he didn’t want to talk to. “Gaeul?” He responded once he heard her voice and a small smile tugged the corners of his mouth upward. They haven’t seen nor have they spoken to each other in quite a while and even though he would never admit it, he missed her. “What’s up? Are you alright?”

Heavy pants left Gaeul’s lips and she threw her head back, her eyes falling shut for a few seconds. It was such a terrible mistake, she thought, but she knew that she couldn’t stop, they couldn’t stop it was too late and now they had no choice but to carry on. Groaning, she straightened up and looked at Teddy who was feet ahead of her, looking properly exasperated and she couldn’t blame him: it was her idea and she wouldn’t even complain if he started to hate her. 

Spending the whole day hiking just because she wanted to see the stars was decidedly not the best plan she ever had. The top of the mountain wasn’t even that far but it felt like they would never be able to reach it and they’d instead die from dehydration or eaten by wolves or bears. A soft gasp left her lips at the sole thought of it and she brought her sore limbs over to Teddy, tugging at the sleeve of his coat. “We’re not going to be eaten by beasts, right?” 

All she received in answer was a glare. “I guess not…” She mumbled to herself and kept on walking. She could have asked Teddy to teleport them over to the top but it wasn’t fair, she would feel like she wouldn’t deserve the sight of a sky full of stars. Hopefully it would be all worth the effort; she was almost dying after all! 

It felt like forever - but instead was just twenty minutes - when they finally reached the top of the mountain and they were greeted by the beautiful scenery of the dark sky covering Seoul, stars shining and blinking as if it was congratulating them for their effort. A wide smile broke across Gaeul’s face despite her tiredness and her eyes remained on the sky: it had definitely be worth it. Teddy’s side felt warm against hers and she curled her fingers around his, giving his hand a light squeeze.

Gaeul straightened up and pulled back from the bouquet of roses she was smelling, an amused smile tugging at the corner of her lips. As expected from Teddy, he didn’t understand the meaning behind the action but she didn’t mind, it was not like she wanted to receive flowers or even anything for Valentines. She truly believed that love should be celebrated all year long - love wasn’t supposed to be ephemeral, or even last for a given time, and now it was all about who’d buy the best gift and amaze everyone. It was all about lies and pretending to be someone they weren’t… Of course not everyone was like this but the reality was that love had become something shops used to sell as much as possible.

“Well, it might surprise you but me neither.” She admitted and ran her fingers through her hair before she leaned against the railing of the bridge they had stopped on, the Han river beneath them and stretching until it disappeared into the horizon. The weather was still rather cold and Gaeul tightened her coat around her body to use it as a shield against the freezing wind that had the tip of her nose and her cheeks turning pink. “It’s just a normal day where couples show themselves and pretend to be more in love than the previous days… It saddens me. Love should be celebrated all the time, between two people. And not for the world to see.” 

Glancing over at Teddy, she smiled and lightly bumped her shoulder against his. It wasn’t to get his attention, but just to be playful, to try to ignore how cold it was getting as they were nearing the start of the evening. She wanted to get closer to him but didn’t know how, didn’t know if she could so she simply turned her attention back to the horizon.

Warm water poured down Gaeul’s body and she tilted her head back, dragging slender fingers through her wet locks to push them back and away from her face. After a long day spent in transports because she had had several libraries to visit, taking a long, hot and relaxing shower had been the only thing she had been looking forward to - not even read a book or eat something, no, she just wanted to take an endless shower until she was melting under the water. Her feet ached and her arms were sore from carrying dozens of books and she thought briefly of calling for a friend to help her go through the day but… Being alone wasn’t that bad. 

All the stress she had gathered was slowly vanishing away and Gaeul hummed in contentment, rolled her neck slowly while she dragged her fingers slowly over the sore muscles of her thin shoulders - this moment couldn’t get better, she thought as she enjoyed the quietness her apartment gave her. Her mind felt slightly foggy; she wasn’t thinking of anything and the exhaustion was slowly catching up with her as well. She’d eat something quick and then she’d go to bed and read a book, but she was pretty sure she’d be unable to finish the book. Her eyes felt so heavy that the only thing she wanted to do was melt in her mattress and not wake up until the next day right at this time. 

She was about to reach for her shower gel but instead, her hand found another and Gaeul startled, turning around so fast that she almost slipped. An arm wrapped around her waist kept her steady and she blinked several times at the sight of a rather unfamiliar chest that led to a much more familiar face. Teddy. In her shower. As naked as her. She was probably hallucinating, or much more tired than she thought. 

But no. He was right here, firmly holding her and looking down at her with this intent gaze of his - her face flushed and she knew that it wasn’t because of the warmth of the water. “What are you doing here?” She murmured, not believing her voice at the moment. Teddy didn’t give her an answer but she couldn’t say that she was expecting one. She simply gazed back at him and let him lean down, let him pull her closer to his body until, eventually, a small but playful smile stretched across her bare lips.
