#95thesis

If you’re going to go to Wittenberg you might as well have all the necessary props.  The original door burned so they replaced it with the metal plaques with the 95 theses on them.  Let’s just say it was cold and windy, so the day was a bunch of hopping between indoor places to get out of the cold.

The tower of the Schlosskirche used to be 20 m shorter until they added the cap.  I really hadn’t understood why it was called the Schlosskirche because there is no obvious sign of a castle anywhere but then I went to the Asisi panorama exhibit.  That was the best 9 euros I spent that day.  Totally worth it.  It went through a 24 hr cycle with lights and soundscape.  It was a very spiritual experience.  All the little details that went into it were amazing.

My favorite part was the early morning with. the stained glass of the church being the first parts of the panorama that light up.  As the day progressed it got more liberal (near the end a woman can be seen reading a bible) and not only did it cover the 31st of October, it also somehow captured Martin Luther’s life.  There was even a witch burning.  It was an amazing experience.

There were some funny things and I got some souvenirs for my family.  Some things were very tempting and funny.  There were shirts and stickers that said ‘Viva la Reformation’. And also these funny ‘pills’ that had Luther quotes in them.

I stayed overnight in a hostel in Leipzig and on Sunday morning after a huge windstorm I went to the church service at the Nikolaikirche, and they had a baptism.  Met some nice people in a tour group from Australia that were getting ready for the reformation celebration in Wittenberg on Tuesday.
