The 993 GT2 and the Carrera GT are the absolute spearhead of the past decades when it comes to the history of the Porsche brand. No other vehicles where closer to motorsport at their times and hardly any other vehicle demands the skills of its driver more! 👌🏻 . In contrast to the Carrera GT, the Porsche GT2 models of the 993 type are road or homologation versions for racing cars. Characteristic for this model of the Porsche 911 are the riveted fender extensions and the rear wing borrowed from the Porsche 993 Carrera RS Clubsport. 😍 . The first version of the 911 GT2 appeared in 1995 on the basis of the then current Porsche 911 Turbo type 993. With the revised 911 turbo engine M 64/60 - which now had the designation M 64/60 R - it produced a maximum of 316 kW (430 hp) at 5,750 min-1 and had a maximum torque of 540 Nm at 4,500 min-1. 172 of this version were produced in total, which was sufficient for homologation of the Porsche 911 GT2. ❤️ . The Carrera GT, on the other hand, is a super sports car from Porsche, which was manufactured in Leipzig. The engine was originally intended to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Le Mans prototype developed by Porsche almost ready for action. However, the start of the sports prototype was rejected and instead its engine and chassis and some technical components were transferred to the Carrera GT. Neither the engine nor the developed Le Mans Prototype have been used in a racing series so far. 😎 . Atypical for a Porsche, the Carrera GT is powered by a 5.7 litre V10 high-rev engine, which is connected to the rear wheels via a win manual six-speed gearbox. RS stands for Rennsport in German, meaning "racing sport". The Carrera name was originally reintroduced from the 356 Carrera which had been named after Porsche's victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950s. 😎 . The RS was built by Porsche to enter racing formulae that demanded a certain number of production cars. Compared with a standard 911S, the Carrera 2.7 RS had a larger 2.7 L (2,687 cc) flat-six boxer engine with a bore x stroke of 90 mm × 70.4 mm developing 210 PS (154 kW) at 6,300 rpm and 255 N⋅m (188 lb⋅ft) of torque at 5,100 rpm with Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection, revised and stiffened suspension, a "ducktail" rear spoiler, larger brakes, wider rear wheels and rear wings. 👌🏻 . In RS Touring form it weighed 1,075 kg (2,370 lb), in Sport Lightweight form it was about 100 kg (220 lb) lighter, the saving coming from the thin-gauge steel used for parts of the bodyshell and also the use of thinner glass. In total, 1,580 were made, comfortably exceeding the 500 that had to be made to qualify for the vital FIA Group 4 class. 🏁 . Two real legends: The BMW M3 e30 and Johnny Cecotto! 🏁 © Photos: @stephan_bauer for @mintclassics __________ HISTORY: Alberto "Johnny" Cecotto (born 25 January 1956) is a Venezuelan former professional Grand Prix motorcycle racer and auto racer. He rose to prominence as a teenage prodigy in 1975 when he became the youngest motorcycle road racing world champion at the age of 19. Despite the auspicious beginning to his motorcycle racing career, he suffered numerous injuries and mechanical problems which curtailed his success in motorcycle Grand Prix racing. At the age of 24, Cecotto turned his attention to auto racing where he reached the pinnacle of the sport as a Formula One driver. He later became a successful Touring Car racer. He is the last of a select group of competitors who competed at the highest level in motorcycle and auto racing which, includes John Surtees and Mike Hailwood among others. In honour of Cecotto BMW built the M3 "Cecotto" in a special edition of the E30 limited to only 505 units. As the successor to the 288 GTO (also engineered by Materazzi), it was designed to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary and was the last Ferrari automobile personally approved by Enzo Ferrari. At the time it was Ferrari's fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car for sale. The car debuted with a planned production total of 400 units and a factory suggested retail price of approximately US$400,000 (5-fold the price of its predecessor, the 288 GTO) in 1987 ($900,000 today). One of those that belonged to the Formula One driver Nigel Mansell was sold for the then record of £1 million in 1990, a record that stood into the 2010s.
