Today, we hung out again and all went to the local crystal/metaphysical store. I helped them pick out some crystals and what not. I also found a box for my own crystals, so I can finally sleep in the same room as them!

But there was soo much going on energetically in that store that I ended up leaving early to go outside and do some grounding. We went back to my friends’ place and I helped them cleanse their crystals, and we did some tarot readings and some pendulum work. It was so fun!

It’s interesting to see more and more people in my life becoming interested and/or involved in spirituality. I used to be alone, so it’s really, really nice to be able to have people to share this Path with. I’m very grateful, and I’m excited to help my friends down their own paths!

I also picked up some white sage while at that shop. Turns out it’s actually reliably sourced; they buy it from a tribe (forget which one) in Northern California. I was pleased and bought some. I got home and saged my apartment. I’ve never used sage before; I normally do all of my cleansing with just energy. But my friend does use it, and the rooms in his house feel amazinggg and I finally caved and got some of my own.

I actually really like the smell of sage. It’s pungent, but slightly sweet. It also feels... kind of like energetically sterile, almost. But I think everything is starting to feel better, most definitely. I was probably long overdue.

I know that I did a lot of energy work today, and I was around a lottt of crystals, but besides that, I’ve been pretty exhausted lately. If I’m still feeling this way after the full moon nonsense subsides, I might need to pay my acupuncturist another visit.

I liked the last 4 minutes quite a bit though as well as the entire second episode, which has a test that’s just a basic survival game so I’m way more behind the mechanics, also it was an excuse to introduce a wider cast of characters that all seem to bounce off of everyone pretty well. I’m glad they didn’t spend too much time on Rak being determined to fight Bam and he can be chill because if Inosuke in Demon Slayer wasn’t evidentce enough, I fucking can’t stand characters solely defined by their drive to fight the main character. Also, they’re cutting between the present day stuff and flashbacks between Bam and Rachel which helps contextualise his character motive a lot, so retroactively I can appreciate that first episode stuff a little bit more, neat. I also appreciate that they’ve introduced a Ranker already, establishes the goal of reaching the top of the tower as a genuine possibility which is always nice to do, helps the narrative avoid this uncertainty. There are benefits to keeping it a mystery obviously, Made in Abyss is plenty proof of that, but hey I like the change of pace.

Speaking of Made in Abyss, this show’s already promising to have the best soundtrack this season, which is no fucking surprise since it’s Kevin Penkin. It’s not quite Made in Abyss soundtrack just yet but he’s already surpassed his somewhat underwhelming work on Shield Hero so hey that’s cool.

And then visually this show just looks super good, great art, great backgrounds, nice settings in general, I like a lot of the character designs and everything animates super well. Hopefully it’s able to keep this quality up.

So Yesterday wo Uttate episode 1 was pretty good. We’ve got a cast of so far likeable characters with a lot of potential for nice conflicts and growths, seems the central idea will be the struggle to grow into adulthood, which uh, might hit hard for me right now since like, yeah I’m doing that.

Granted it’s possible this show’ll become something I don’t really like, since as it is now we’ve got a lot of pretty flowery dialogue and also 2 possible love interests for the main dude so I fear this’ll become some contrived love triangl bullshit fake-smart show that pretends to have thematic depth when really it’s empty and dull and tropey as hell. Now granted, little actually suggests that could happen right now, this is just my experience with this genre clouding my assumptions. We’ll see where it goes though. This episode did a good enough job at having a miniature character arc for MC as it builds up to his confession, even if his emotions were perhaps a little overexplained, but that’s still a promising start so.

Really my main takeaway from this first episode though is that, Doga Kobo should spread themselves a little further. They do so much just regular cute girl slice of life shows, and they’ve definitely mastered that and I don’t want them to stop, however this slower-burning romantic drama show, with more subtle movements and nuanced emotions, it’s outside of what I’ve seen from them, but they’re doing a fucking ridiculously good job at it - this first episode looked absolutely beautiful. And it’s not even just the artwork, Doga Kobo are still animating all of these designs super well, it’s a delight to the eyes.
