Commonly referred to as the 9 Hells
Avernus, Dis, Minauros, Phlegethos, Stygia, Malbolge, Maladomin, Cania, Nessus
Each layer of Hell is ruled by an Archdevil/Archduke
Followers of Asmodeus before and after the fall
-Resides in 9th layer, Nessus
-Previously the an angel(?) of He-Who-Was
-Slew his master and was cursed and trapped in Baator
Baathion and its relation to Baator
Baathion was once Baator, became Baator after He-Who-Was was slain
-Another act by Asmodeus to spite his master
-To trap Asmodeus and his followers the plane had to be transformed into the 9 hells known today;
-Side effect of the influx of negative energy emanated from the devils: Unholy artifacts often have corrupting effects, given a long period of time this seems probable
If it was corrupted how was it corrupted; again negative energy seems probable
Multiple recorded cases of unholy artifacts possessing corrupting tendencies, If artifacts incur corruption what would the effect of the archdevil and swarms of fiends be over a long period of time
Corruption caused it to be the 9 hells known today: the afterlife for lawful evil individuals (at least for humans, other races may vary)
Intended as punishment for their crimes and sins
Begs the question, what was Baathion like before my God was slain?
There is already an afterlife for Good souls; Doubtful that it was switched over after
Possible that it was always the destination for lawful evil souls. If so ,why would a just and good God have domain over evil souls?
Currently place of eternal punishment? Is that compatible with He-Who-Was’ precepts
Justice requires evil must be punished, good requires ethical treatment, eternal damnation only meets one of the precepts, thus Baathion would not be a place of eternal torment
Then why would evil souls be there. Perhaps still a place of punishment but not eternal. Concept of restorative justice? Baathion exists to both punish and redeem evil souls. Purification through fire.
