From Malaysia to NĂźrburgring, Germany on an AE86.
After searching for one of the very few AE86 videos he still hadnât seen, shine (@oscarwave) came across a video on YouTube about an AE86 made by Tokyo Tuner. At first it seemed just like a really cool video about a well-maintained and daily-driven Trueno, but it turned to be more than that. The owner of the car was planning to do an entire world-tour on it. All the way from Malaysia, through China, Russia and many other countries (including Baltics) until he reaches NĂźrburgring in Germany that he plans to race on with that same AE86, as he said itâs to âtest the carâ.
It seemed quite unbelievable, but after shine wrote a comment under the video saying that we would like to meet him in Latvia if that's possible - the man behind this crazy idea named Hadri contacted us himself, and said that he would be really happy for if we would meet him, help him and his friends to find a nice place to stay for the night and show them around the capital city. Ever since then we stayed in touch, followed the entire trip until we finally met them here in Riga, Latvia.
It was absolutely amazing to see an AE86 pull-up so casually with things packed on its roof, and the car with three people inside, boot full of car-parts and tools. On its way here the car started having some misfiring issues though, but Hadri and his friends werenât too nervous about it. They were ready to find out whatâs the issue, and fix it straight away. All it really needed was a new set of spark plugs and the sound of smoothly running 4A-GE was like music to our ears. Hadri also had some questions about cars insurance, but we figured everything out quickly.
After having proper lunch we went to the place that we had booked for them to settle down and take all the unnecessary weight away from the car. After moving in, we went to explore the city. We had a very friendly talk about all sorts of topics, and shared some presents/souvenirs for each other. It was a really nice chill evening in city of Riga. For dinner we went to try out some traditional Latvian food, and then headed back with full stomachs to sleep.
Next morning shine went to help Hadri and friends to pack for their departure, film a quick-little video and say good bye, but before that Hadri let shine drive the RHD AE86 which was like a dream come true. We got some footage of that as well, but most importantly it will forever be engraved in our minds, and leave a huge impression and inspiration to achieve our goals.
We want to say âThank You, Hadri & Co!â for doing this crazy tour, working really hard to achieve Your goals and inspiring other people. We really hope to see You again, and we wish You luck finishing the project without any incidents, and getting back home safely. P.S. Follow this journey on Instagram @ae86worldtour and come say hi if You are near NĂźrburgring on the 2nd of November!

Camshaft Bath Decided to soak the old nasty camshafts in a ghetto vinegar rig. Because i donât exactly have enough vinegar to fill a bucket, i decided to get cling wrap and make a bridge to put the cam on, then used tins of tuna on both sides to keep the vinegar from falling off the sides. I then dried the cams and coated on some WD-40. Itâs pretty amazing how well this worked over a span of like six or eight hours. Literally everyone in my dorm can smell the vinegar when they walk past the stairs, i bought a little vanilla defuser thingy but i doubt itâs going to calm anyone. Iâll be working on the exhaust camshaft tomorrow because i could only fit one camshaft in my ghetto rigged bathrub.Â
(((SUPER SEXY STRIP))) Finally go the fucking camshafts out after having to saw down the old bolts several times (Got spares). The rust was terrible to cut through, however my good friend Adam brought a socket set and saws and all sorts of shit so we actually had tools to use. I gave the inside where the spark plugs sit a good clean, itâs going to look a lot better soon but itâs already looking -okay- and thereâs surprisingly very little grime and shit on the valves, but iâm provably going to replace them with something more heavy duty so i can hit that 9500 RPM threshold. The pump tubing and butterfly inlet manifold also left today and even the second we removed them to snap a photo there was already carbon going everywhere, so itâs going to need a very thorough clean before we can even consider throwing ITBsâ on there. At this point iâm honestly not sure whether the 272 cams will be able to go at their full potential without blowing the head to pieces, but at least if they do itâll become a hilarious video when it happens 8))Â
Didnât do an update/any work yesterday so iâll double post today :~) Hereâs my current 7AFE corolla, it makes next to no power and is extremely clean (190k kms) considering everything. Before the headâs thrown in iâm going to have to move the battery to the boot, but you can see where itâs going to sit and where the ITBsâ will hopefully be located.Â
