when i first started this job 6 years ago, it has been instilled in me to not leave an entire line of customers to go on my break. and i just can't shake that, because nowadays the viewpoint of the desk from management is that it is immaterial, unnecessary. so go on my fckn break even if a busload of 18 customers are in line. screw everybody else. good customer service is partly about making the customer feel important, no? making the customer feel like i care? well, i can't do that if they (management) don't fckn care either.
