Tsunayoshi initially thinks Mukuro is way more serious of a person than Mukuro actually is.

Like, while WE know hes the type to do things for shits and giggles due to his interactions with lets say the Kokuyo and Verde, Tsuna does Not. Hes still kinda operating on how Mukuro and Tsuna interact during literally every other arc, wherein Mukuro is trying to farm aura points.

So what happens is Tsuna goes into this relationship antsy af. He thinks hes about to date some cool guy who is also like, villainous. Is Tsuna Really up to this? Will Mukuro get bored of him? Will his first ever break up ruin dating for him forever? WAS THIS A GOOD IDEA?

Then Mukuro makes some fucked up joke/pun and Tsuna, the infamous "i gotta be the only serious one here and if not i will be making bad jokes about the entire situation" guy of the Daily Arc cant help it --- he snorts

Mukuros eyes light up a little at someone he kinda likes actually getting his bad and sometimes sadistic humor that isnt his apprentice. He doubles down on the joke/pun to the point its pure dark humor now. Tsuna cant help it again -- he makes a sarcastic remark back.

"Oh yeah u might have to get permissions from my 'parents'" - hes saying this as a joke but oddly looks serious about it

Tsuna pauses and is like "sorry. What." cuz hes pretty sure there was an entire arc about Mukuro being an orphan and hasnt really yet clued into how many questionable jokes Mukuro is capable of making about all that.

Cuts to Kokuyo hideout where Tsuna is sweating nervously on one couch, across from Fran and M.M of all people.

I want to emphasize there is no actual nuclear family dynamics here. This is not a weird au where those two are actually his parents. Rather, theyre more like Final Bosses. This is a showdown.

See. Chrome, Ken, and Chikusa would be supportive of anything Mukuro does. Ken would be a little whiny at first sure but ultimately, those three would be fine if Mukuro started dating Tsuna. In fact Chrome was probably rooting for it.

M.M and Fran however.

M.M needs to know if this boy is worthy of Mukuro-sama. Shes going to interrogate him like woah. Tsunayoshi WILL cry at her hands and she is going into this intending this outcome.

The ten year old Fran, meanwhile, is about to have his favorite person taken away from him in his eyes. Hes not here to interrogate. Hes waiting for the ultimate moment to just kill him.

Ultimately Fran somehow falls victim to Tsunas mafia big brother aura. I imagine it happens after Fran tries to lead him on with a question about some obscure anime he and Mukuro both like ("cuz master Cannot date someone who doesnt like it, dammit!) Only for it to turn out tsuna also liked that show.

M.M groans and is like "you goddamn traitor' to Fran who is now like sitting right next to an overhelmed Tsuna asking him his fave characters and showing off his limited edition merch. But because of Fran she finally stops interrogating him and asks him instead whether he plans on making Mukuro happy and when he answers with "I want to do my best" she is like "ughhhhh fineeee" and accepts it.

You want to accept that good people exist but you can’t and for some reason you also can’t bring yourself to really break this person. He terrifies you more than anyone else ever has. Yes, more than them. Because his existence, and his beliefs, mean everything you believe isn’t as solid and immutable as you thought

The other guy thinks you’re a massive jerk and logically knows you aren’t worth it but can’t bring himself to give up on you, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to take your misdirected abuse lying down. He hates what you hate just as much as you do but his way of approaching that could not be more different.

Neither of you can give up on this sunk cost fallacy that is your life and promise to live the best you can together

Each of you kind of wishes the other would ask, if only to get it over with, because that would be a breach of contract worthy of death
