Farmerâs Market May 10th Prompt
âWell, itâs not as busy as I thought it would beâ Jai says as their sister walks around to the front of the booth organizing all the little bee creations.
âItâs only 9 am Jaiâ
âYeah well, donât farmers get up at the crack of dawn?â
âProbably but they have farms to run, they will probably be here later in the day. Donât worry, weâll sell enoughâ Vera comes back around behind the table and grabs Jai by the shoulders and hugs them tight. âItâs gonna be good I promise, everyone will love the bees youâve createdâ. Jai returns the hug and Vera feels their shoulders relax as a big sigh comes out. Â
Jai has been working on the creations for months in anticipation of the market. Jai loves bees, thinks they are wonderful creatures and loves creating anything bee themed. From bee dishes to bee figurines, bee paintings, all kinds of pieces that are bee mashups, their favorite thing theyâve created is the small bee farmers about the sizes of gnomes. Some with straw hats, some with cowboy hats, some with handkerchiefs around them and some with overalls on. They even made lots of hive themed items with bees on them as well. Pottery, painting, scraps of metal. They use many different forms of textures and materials to create with. When Vera gets to watch Jai create, it reminds her of bees even though Jai is only one person, so itâs fairly poetic that they love creating bee things. Â
As the day goes on, the booth gets more and more attention, Vera buzzing around talking to people about different pieces and ringing up purchases. Jai mostly sitting in the back coming forward only when someone directs a question toward them, and speaks in quiet but firm tones. Jai thinks this isnât so bad, most of the people have nice things to say and while not everyone buys something they all seem to love one or more of their pieces. A few people even ask if they do commission pieces, which Jai has not even thought of but thankfully Vera pipes in and offers to take email addresses for anyone interested in commission pieces should Jai ever decide to do any. Vera makes sure people know itâs not a definite thing but they will discuss it and email what options might be available should Jai want to take on commissions. Â
Before they know it, it is 4pm and everyone next to them is starting to cover their booths and close down for the day. Vera is very excited and helping the last few people at their booth as Jai is going through the boxes under the table to check the stock. Â
âUhm, Vera?â Jai calls out tentatively, head ducked under one of the tables.
âYeah?â
âDid you leave some stock in the car?â Jai looks up then and sees Vera is standing near them beaming. âNopeâ she says, just grinning. Jai canât believe it, somehow thereâs less than 30% of the stock she brought. Vera pulls Jai up into a big hug and says âsee! I told you!â Jai stands there in her arms and lets a small tear fall. âI canât believe people love my creationsâ. But Vera could and suggests they cover the tables and head back to their rental for the night. Tomorrow theyâll try to sell the rest of the stock and explore the rest of the market before heading home. Vera knew Jai was talented and gifted, and is so glad she convinced Jai to do this. Itâs the start of something big for Jai, and Vera is here for it.
