It's hard to believe I've spent a whole 10 years of my life now listening, watching, supporting and memeing with these four guys.
Teenage me first subscribed to Luke's YouTube just before the others came along. I remember him and Michael discussing band names. I remember first seeing them play with Ashton. I remember hoping that I'd have others to share in the excitement that was 5 Seconds Of Summer one day.
When they finally had a gig in Ireland supporting One Direction I immediately volunteered to bring my little cousin to see that concert. She spent all her birthday money covering herself in 1D merch while I bought myself two 5SOS tshirts and some wristbands that I proceeded to wear constantly to spread the good word. My friends there all fell in love with Luke. Took every ounce of my energy not to be the annoying one who goes WELL I'VE BEEN TELLING YOU ABOUT HIM FOR AGES HAVEN'T I.
Next 1D concert and I of course volunteered to bring the cousin again so I could see 5SOS. It made me happy to see I wasn't alone in buying their merch this time. They deserved that. They were finally smashing their way into the mainstream music scene and it made me so proud.
They eventually started playing actual shows here - and I've been to every tour that stopped by Dublin. I've watched them go from four boys on YouTube with a dream to one of the biggest artists in the world. It actually makes me emotional.
They shift beautifully from one album to the next, innovating and growing more and more while never abandoning the core of their sound. It's been an amazing 10 years. Bring on more.
