Once the boys signed her contract, Lenora set to laying the groundwork for everything she had promised -- and more. For two weeks she more or less let them be, save for the occasional check-in email, while quietly making her own set of arrangements. This, for the most part, revolved around looking into each of the boys’ backgrounds: family history, medical records, possible criminal records... She learned a lot. A lot. THIS IS A GREAT QUESTION…. because. i have a story for it.
this time three-four years ago, i met my two best friends in the dangan ronpa oc community. at the time, we were part of a massive friend group of ten-fifteen people. it was all cool and dandy, but boy, the dangan ronpa oc community was a toxic, toxic place, and i didn’t realise how awful it was until only last year.
my best friend, had an ex in the community who was actually very emotionally abusive to him in MANY ways (made out that you had to have physically abusive parents to have depression, didn’t care when he was in the hospital and never asked how he was doing or if he was okay…) and he had been chased out of the community many times because the dangan ronpa oc community is like some awful tumblr, but WORSE. he came back under an alias to try and roleplay and have fun again, depression was kicking his ass around the ballpark and with only two friends to roleplay with at any given time, you can see how easily one can sicken of that. things were good for a while until his ex came back and followed him. he had a panic attack over the following, and then he blocked them, but they called attention to the blocking- they didn’t say who did it, but they made a big song and dance out of it that wasn’t necessary. the entire community just detonated as an argument begun and they called each other out, (my best friend had upwards of twenty sources from tumblr and skype in his post and the other person had none.)
i generally consider myself an anti-drama person, but i lost my fucking shit, man. my best friend has had so much trouble with so many relationships, and roleplaying is an escape from that shit. the drama was unnecessary, and i spent a while looking over the blog, and i even assisted in some calling out because it was my best friend (who is now still my best friend going on just past three years now) and you don’t leave your best friend behind. i was mad, i wanted answers, and yet, the only conclusion everyone could draw was to run my best friend out of the community for the second time. it wasn’t fair, it wasn’t just, and it all over just highlights how fucking awful that community was. it’s basically dead now, i believe, but… christ, i can’t help but get mad every time i think about it. people deserve better. my best friend deserves better.
i dont support much call out culture, but in the storm of events, i felt like i was doing the right thing in supporting and defending my friend from an abuser.
