Behind the Scenes: Gold in our Ā Hidden Collections
In an interview with Essential Pittsburgh last week, Marc Wilson, head of the minerals section, showed off a vial of heavy mineral concentrate collected in Colorado in the 1850s and a letter from the archives that gave it some context.
āThis letter claims that this is the first gold sent east form the Pikeās Peak Gold Rush,ā Wilson said.
Essential Pittsburgh, a local radio program broadcast on 90.5 WESA, recorded a segment on the museumās hidden collections on May 4.
