Had to jump on #4favemarvel. Shout out to docshaner. It’s hard to pick 4 people, so I went with my favorites over the years.
Spider-Man is my all-time favorite. Since before I could read, he’s been my dude. He’s funny, he’s compelled to help people even when it hurts him, he’s got the best villains, he’s fun to draw, he’s the best.
In the late 80s, when I really started reading comics (out of the local library), Captain America became one of my favorites. I think most people assume Captain America is some boring patriotic propaganda, but I think the movies are showing people the character I was seeing as a kid. He’s a guy who always wants to do the right thing. He never gives up. He’s pretty great.
In the 90s, Christopher Priest showed me Black Panther is one of the coolest Marvel characters of all time. He’s one of the smartest people in Marvel Comics, he’s got crazy advanced technology, he’s always 6 moves ahead of the game, and he just looks cool. He’s more Batman than Batman.
And my newest favorite is the new Ms. Marvel. Her comic is such a breath of fresh air, so full of life and not afraid to be fun and silly, while still telling a good story. She’s what Spider-Man was to me as a kid for kids of the 21st century.
