“Come on, load, load, load...” The app was taking forever to start up. The navy blue arrows kept on going in a circle, round and round, in front of the forest background. Nanako was becoming impatient. This wasn’t like on the computer, where she would have to pick a server depending on how many penguins were logged onto it, or if you were allowed to type or not. It was supposed to just be one quick click (since her penguin name and password was already saved onto the phone), and then she was supposed to be in.

Nanako was sitting on a bench in the park alongside her Big Bro and Ribbon, her toy pink puffle. She had received Ribbon for her most recent birthday, and ever since then she tried to force her Big Bro to go for a walk with her daily to the park. If penguins walked virtual puffles, she should walk the plush ones!

Finally, the screen on her Big Bro’s phone stopped loading, and the Town appeared. “Ah, look Big Bro! I’m in! I’m finally online!” PINKOCTOBER has finally logged in. In the bottom right corner of the screen, it showed that eleven of her penguin friends were online too. But Nanako didn’t care much for them. After all, they would get boring pretty quickly, and really she wanted to have as many friends as possible just for the stamps and so that her igloo would get likes.

“I’m so excited to see what we got! We’re going to have the best tree out there!” Nanako had no doubt in her mind that she and Big Bro were going to win by a large margin. They had only one hour to complete the tree, and it was going to be awesome.

She impatiently opened the box, wanting to start as fast as possible. The girl took out the first item that caught her eye. “Look Big Bro! It’s a green piggy! Isn’t it so silly?”

I am genuinely disappointed in you.

“Wait that’s not good you...” Yosuke settles back, “wait you weren’t being serious were you? Dammit Narukami!”

Yu doesn’t say anything back and Yosuke just lays his head on the table completely exasperated. Really, really, he needed to stop doing this to him it was not good for his heart. He’s always got this deadpan way of telling jokes that makes it really hard to tell if he’s being serious or not. How many times has it been that he’s gotten Yosuke with this deadpan sense of humor. Too many times for him to be able to count on both his hands that’s for sure. Does that make him gullible? Nah, Yu’s just a mystery after all, he doubts anyone can tell when he’s joking and when he’s not.

“Dude, you’re seriously not good for my health” he groaned, “seriously one day you’re going to give me a heart attack. Will you be happy then?”

“Welcome home, Big Bro!”

It was pouring heavily outside. According to the weather channel, the rain wouldn’t let up for the next couple of days, probably resulting in a fog afterwards. It was the weekend so Nanako didn’t have to go to school. Instead, she had sat in front of the TV all day, and did the laundry in the meantime.

It was now evening, and she heard her Big Bro enter the front door. Hopefully he had taken an umbrella so that he wouldn’t get the main hallway all wet.

Her dad wasn’t home, as he was busy at work. But he was always busy at work, so she was used to being home alone. Maybe she could push away the feelings of loneliness now that Big Bro was home.

There was a quiz show playing on the TV. Surprisingly Nanako knew most of the answers, as her brain was filled with a bunch of facts. Yet some of the questions, like the one currently being displayed on the screen, were harder to guess.

“WHAT?! No way! You’re the coolest of the cool, senpai!” Rise said, temper flaring as she heard the older silver haired male speak. Feeling angry on Yu’s behalf, the idol shook her head and frowned deeply. His life was anything but a joke -- he was so cool, that there was no way anything about him could be funny or pathetic like the comment implied.

“Yu?” Yosuke could see the exhaustion in his partner’s eyes and he had felt a little bad. The baby hadn’t been adjusting well since they’d brought him home. He cried so often and so loud that he’d honestly been so super worried. Was there something wrong? Was he not feeling okay? They’d decided to give it another day and had finally gotten him to settle down and sleep soundly, but the peace was short lived as he woke up crying nearly two hours later. Yosuke scooped the crying child in his arms gently rocking him as he shot Yu a sleepy smile.
