Saw ninajirachi live and got my cd signed!
Felt a bit weird asking for a signature on a custom disk when they were selling official cds at the show but feel like it kinda fits the album. Also already bought it on Bandcamp and found a stack of cdrs at the thrift for 4 dollars 2 days before the show.
Also not sure how intentional the set list ordering was but feel like it changed my perspective on the album, might have also just been hearing the songs live. Also thanks enjoyed the girledm inserts enjoyed hearing them live. ILMC def top 3 albums of the year. And enjoyable live show despite maybe getting sick.
The crowd seemed more normal than I was expecting, more gender conforming than I'm used to. Also felt like there wasn't as many furries there as I was expecting.
Personally relate to fuck my computer and delete less than most people if crowd engagement are anything to go by. I think it speaks to a growing gap within our culture where technology, our phones, are filling both the emotional and physical role of a partner.
Guess objectum sexuality is mainstream now. \s
I sorta relate to fuck my computer in the computer sense but not so much in the phone sense. My relationship with my phone is closer to a kismesis.
I think fuck my computer has a number of different interpretations and honestly not sure what is most popular. There's the obvious porn connotations which might just be the reason the song is relatable on a wide scale. But personally I think the more interesting analysis is that it just speaks to how deeply ingrained the romance myth is in our culture (Dean Spade, is my main exposure to the romance myth concept). I'm gonna do an awful job summarizing but basically your most closely held connection must be a sexual one and it's the only one that matters. Since our relationship with our computers is the strongest then there's a sexual desire linked to that. I think that's closer to the my favored understanding at least for me. However, genuinely think author intent might just be an objectum take.
As someone fortunate enough to enjoy irl with my friends most of the time and I also intentionally tries to limit my social media usage I don't relate as strongly to some of the other themes of the album and particularly delete. Although there probably when I was in high school it would have been more relatable to me.
Respect the 3rd wave feminist messaging of this album. Unfortunately for her, I think she's maybe gonna be type cast as a whore (within Madonna-whore complex) because of discussing sex in music. And as much as someone might try to escape it it's hard to avoid the slut label once you've got it. She could pull an Ashnikko about it though and kinda make it a brand. Mainly brought this up because feel like ironically she might be more of a Madonna but in the literal Madonna of the 80s sense because of taking music and cultural elements relating to subculture and bringing them more into the mainstream. Feel like only time will tell if she ends up being the tumblr furries' Madonna. Heck third wave hasn't even hit most of pop culture if the Barbie movie's popularity (def second wave feminism coded and people were like this changes my entire life) is anything to go off. I'll take my Jesus figures where I can get them and this album is a gospel I can get behind.
Perhaps this is just my personal interpretation and projection but I feel like battery death and sing good are peak. Honestly kinda underrated (at least battery death), I feel like the crowd wasn't very interested in battery death and sing good didn't make the set list, maybe because it's not party enough. Guess I feel like this is the main way my perspective shifted from seeing it live. Feel like maybe Nina is playing 4D chess (or might just be incidental) and has managed to package a message the internet isn't ready for in an appealing album. People aren't willing to grapple with the social media / phone addiction and fight it in a way that will result in a less corporate internet however there some apatite for reminiscing about the internet of old. Guess that's the genius of this album lure people in with the nostalgia and then hit them with them with the deep stuff in the latter half of the album. Full on masterpiece.
Interesting the parallels in motif and messaging between ILMC and love & ponystep. Vylet does a much deeper raw album while this is more polished and relatable. Seems like both are creations of our time. Also want to relate it to constant companions (jamie paige) but that's more fictosexuality/romance less objectum sexuality. Still similar motifs (mainly shared tumblr/neocities/trans/furry web brain type things). Could go on for awhile about this subject but this post is getting long af and want to make morning coffee.
Hope Nina takes a good long while with the next one album, stick to the music don't become an influencer at least not more than you need to to pay the bills (DAWs and paws not subs and clubs), and writes a banger of another album. Nina if you are reading this, my advice is write what you want to not what you think people will like. The authenticity of this album is what's killer.
