Sorry for the delay. I (the runner of this page) was having a Monday...
Kody is an 18 year old mellophone player from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. He graduated from Notre Dame High School last year and will be attending the University of Grant MacEwan pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree after the summer. He took a year off just so he could focus on marching with Spirit of Atlanta for the 2016 season! He has marched six years with the Red Deer Royals which includes two international tours and three WAMSB performance. Besides playing mellophone, he also plays trumpet and trombone.
When asked why Spirit, Kody said, “I first got interested in DCI back when I was 13 and ever since, I've been obsessed. I was already marching for two years and I knew that it was going to be an activity I'd stick with for a long, long time. So finding out there was a bigger, more intense aspect of what I loved lit a fire inside me! I always loved swing, 'Won't leave your head' kind of music too, and Spirit always managed to lay out an amazing show full of it. When I graduated and felt it was finally time to reach for my dreams, I auditioned for Spirit!” We are glad you did!
Kody said he is really looking forward to challenging himself and growing as a person in an environment like Spirit. He said everyone is so welcoming, encouraging, and really intense. He says that members know what their own personal goals are and it's surreal to be in a room full of people who are ready to give it their all for themselves and for the Corps. He has already met so many awesome people and spending a summer in the hot, American heat with them working hard sounds like the best time of his life and he can't wait!
