“Oh blow it out your ear!”
I just finished GFA. M*A*S*H as a whole has meant so much to me these past two months. I only started it at the beginning of April, and we’re not even to double digits in June, but damn if it doesn’t feel like a lifetime. When I started this series, I was looking for a familiar, old-fashioned-style-tv comedy. What I got was comedy, yes, but some of the most profound media I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. It was politics from 40-50 years ago that align so well with what we must believe today, and characters that truly went to hell and back and became family in the process.
For 9 weeks, I have clung to this series like a lifeline. In the past 10 minutes, I have cried and cried and cried and I can’t make any more tears. GFA premiered just over 43 years ago, the series started almost 54 years ago. This has existed for so long without me, but now it has become a part of who I am.
Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen, 4077th, I’m a better person for knowing you.
