I was there in the marichat trenches when it was born.

Personally marichat has always been my favourite ship since the fandom really presented it as their comfort spaces in the early days, a space where marinette could be comfortable in herself and the same for adrien since neither of them had the pressures of their weird crushes to make things awkward. I’m also a big sucker for friends to lovers.

In my au I think marichat should take this same approach, since they managed to fuck it up majorly in the show. (I don’t know how they managed to butcher such an easy going ship but here we are) But taking a bit more liberty with my ideas for both characters homosexual discovery. They’re good friends, can rely on each other and confide in each other.

And maybe since Adrianne is an institutionalised baby she could use someone like Marinetta to ask questions that she might not necessarily be able to ask Nino. Though I think Nino got a bit of a vibe from her from the start.

I used the time of trying to get a good final design for Kitty Noire down whilst thinking about this lol.

As I am a university student myself I naturally imagine them to be around that age, all having the opportunity to major in separate subjects in a very prestigious school since this is Paris. I would say Marinetta is in her first year of university from the very beginning but it’s kind of like one of those fancy rich kid universities where everyone has connections with crazy unspoken societal rules and a pressure to perform in a major you do not give a monkeys about.

As for the year I lean more towards 2000’s since that’s when I grew up and the clothes are more fun to draw, I also do not like all of the futuristic technology business they like to do in the show. I want my scrappy 2000’s teenagers back.

I’ve definitely dabbled on this idea of Adrianne being a trans girl and whilst I think I would be a meaningful story idea I don’t think I can do it justice in my head, since Adrianne has been so sheltered her life. I think any introduction to a major change in gender expression would require for her to be male presenting to start which is not how it works in my narrative.

My idea really is that sentimonsters are kinda without gender and only fit into the idea of gender their creators place on them? Since they’re creations of the miraculous.

So after she is groomed all her life to be a cis, heterosexual female because that is what her mother was (she is literally just her mother is so many respects, which is why Gabriel is an ass to her) I think it might work in terms of her discovering her homosexuality and then maybe choosing to experiment with her gender expression if anything.

As for her relationship with her dad as I’ve stated above it has a lot to do with her looking like her mum, Emilie is a freaky freaky woman to me and I’ve always wanted her legacy to be kinda creepy. In my narrative she is big time dead from early on in Adrianne’s childhood, then because of Gabriel’s grief he basically shaped Adrianne into her mother as she grew which has caused a lot of familial tension because Adrianne just reminds Gabriel of the woman he fell in love with when they were young.

Only upon reclaiming the rings can Adrianne begin to dictate her own appearance which may lean into more gender fluidity as is the sentimonsters nature.

Emilie’s legacy is my favourite plot point really wish they explored more in the show.

In my eyes Adrianne can’t even begin her journey of understanding who she is apart from her parents until she receives “autonomy” represented physically by the rings.

Such a journey of self discovery takes a lot of personal development and time (especially since she is such an empathetic individual). Adrianne is neither completely androgynous (since that’s such a vast area of expression) nor butch to me, but we all have our own headcannons.

I personally like feminine clothes and find androgyny can be found in that too. So instead of Adrianne’s personality being stripped back and made anew once she acquires the rings. (To me she isn’t any kind of aggressive and never will be, not even as kitty) I think she just slowly begins to think about what she likes, not what her father wants for her.

And actually to start I think her combinations will be pretty odd, but hey she seems to be having fun, even when she’s battling with the news that maybe her whole life is a lie.
