your posts on translation are so interesting! I wish I could read the original Japanese. I might try- because seriously the translations both fan and official are Not good...having the text even slightly off changes the tone and can affect the story differently 😭
Thank you! Tbh I’ve posted a few pages before but I figure not many people would be interested so I’ve just been posting them for me, but I might start making more posts even if it’s just purely for my own notes.
There are so many areas in both fan translations and official ones that just blow my mind on how terrible they are. From the vaguely “okay that’s basically what they said but you really could have phrased that in English better” to “wtf is this? That’s not even remotely close to what they said? Why are you changing the dialogue?”
I’ve kind of grouped stuff into four categories:
“I’m not happy with it but I understand why you translated it like that”
“please make better word choices your phrasing is not the best”
and my personal favorite “you completely removed/altered the dialogue wtf is wrong with you?!”
I’m not exaggerating when I say there are spots in various volumes where the translator has taken out the original dialogue and put in something completely different. It’s very discouraging and a little unsettling. I might reblog some older posts that point this out.
