#269 #366photochallenge #366daysofphotos . Today I wrote a little story especially for you...... . One day there was a breadboard. . But unfortunately he was a very sad breadboard. . . He felt misunderstood and was upset because he’d heard it said that his nose looked a bit nutty. And also said that his mouth looked just like a green bean. . So the breadboard felt very sad and you could almost see a little crumb of a year if you looked closely. . After feeling more and more miserable for quite a while, the breadboard had a very big think. And then he thought some more. And even a little bit more. . And in the end, he remembered a distant memory right at the back of his mind. . The words slowly came tinkling along and in the end they fully emerged, like a beautiful butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, or a Phoenix arising from the flames, and the breadboard finally remembered. .. . Would you like to know what he remembered and what happened next? . YES I hear you shout! . A few things really... ~~~ Don’t let things others say hold you back from your aim, distract you from your focus,or sadden your day. Just because they have been thought or said it doesn’t mean we have to take them on board - we can just ignore them and carry on our way. . ~~~It’s not always the words said, it can also be what we think of the things others have said - our perception of those words. And if we found those words upsetting or hurtful or annoying or just plain negative, we could have a think and reframe those words to be something a little more positive. . ~~~And lastly, choose kindness always!! . 3. Day 40/366 I often get invited to photograph birthdays and other family occasions but today is different. Today it is my mother-in-law’s 100th birthday party so here we are together at the start of her party. This lady is such an inspiration to me. She’s has 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Her parents came from Russia to the East End of London before she was born and she was the youngest of 7 children. During the 2nd world war, she worked for the home office and sewed secret maps into rain coats. These days she is physically a little frail but mentally is as bright as a button, a good friend and mother, and I always enjoy her company. Day 18/366 This little lady is going to celebrate her 100th birthday in a few weeks time. Her name is Rebecca. Since falling and breaking her leg 18 months ago, she now has to live in a care home and cannot come over to our home anymore. She is my mother in law and my friend; she taught me how to cook traditional Jewish recipes such as the best Chicken Soup, chullent, and Lochshun pudding. Her parents settled here and she grew up, the youngest of 7 children, in the East End of London. During the 2nd world war she worked for the home office. Some say she helped the war effort by sewing maps into raincoat pockets but when I ask her her eyes twinkle so I’m not sure if she did or not! She is still mentally as bright as a button and has not lost her sense of humour. I enjoy being with her and find her inspiring. I go to visit whenever I can and especially if I’m not photographing a wedding or portraits on Saturdays. Day 17/366 Another day another newspaper! : I guess we are all now very used to seeing everyone catching up or reading, route-finding or grabbing a selfie, by using their mobile phones. : For some reason I happened to have passed through a few places this week and have noticed people are sat waiting for something and appear to prefer whiling away their time by catching up with something in print! By reading or scanning through a newspaper! There’s something about not needing to watch how much battery you have left. or is there a charger around to plug in and read, something rather refreshing about not sitting scrolling a lit screen, but actually sitting and reading something physical still, and accessed by turning and folding., creasing and smoothing, with the feel of the paper between your fingers and the scent of the inks and print gently pervading your nose!!: : So maybe my next project theme is going to be photographing people reading books or newspapers. OK! Let’s see what I find!! Do you enjoy reading the paper or reading real books? Or are you now totally digital and book free? I’d love to know in DMs or comments. Day 16/366 Ok so this is an iPhone photo of a photo from an awesome early Autumn wedding I photographed previously, and have been working on editing this week. And this is one of my favourites. Why? Well, I just really love the mixture of textures in the photograph; the twists and folds of the pattern of the brides hair, the shiny clasp and pearls of her necklace, her beautiful smooth skin, and the warm, soft, fur of her wrap. I also love that she is hiding her lovely face from us so perhaps we are intrigued to know more. And yet she is framed by the darker contrast of the grooms outline facing towards her. But we do not see his face either, making the moment seem more private as a quiet moment only shared by the two of them. But also I love it because It was a chance photograph, totally natural and unplanned, I say this because the bride had been wearing a full length veil, but the strong, gusty sea breeze was having none of that and a few seconds before, had twisted up and then whipped the veil away, tossing it up high into the air and merrily leading the groom on a spirited dance as he chased after to catch and tame it, leaving the bride a little more exposed!
