Do the people in your life understand you well? Is there something you wish they knew about you that you’ve kept hidden so far? Conversely, is there anyone who understands you better than you know yourself?
*this isn't the original prompt for the day, the original prompt will be revisited later.
Family
My immediate family who I have lived with for the majority of my life understand me well enough. My siblings especially do, but my parents...I guess they try to? Idk. They love me though, and they're trying their best now. I guess that's all that matters. 🤷🏻♀️
But there is really one thing I wish they knew. I really wish they knew that I treat people as well as they treat me , regardless of who you are in my life.
There was a time when I was younger when all my parents and my siblings would tell me, "you treat your friends better than you treat us!" (In terms of constantly hanging out with them, giving them random gifts, etc.)
And that statement still stays we with me to this day. Yes, it bothered me that they felt that way. They're my family! And I'm supposed to give them all the gifts and talk nicely to them all the time no matter what because they're family, right?
No. That way of thinking never sat right with me, and being so young (in my childhood/teen years) I couldn't articulate it. Until now.
The way I am treated reflects on the way people treat me. End of story. You treat me well, I'll treat you well. That changes and you treat me badly? I'll treat you badly. Simple.
So when they notice that I like spending time with my friends more than them and they question me, they don't see what they do to contribute to that. My friends actually 1) try to engage in meaningful conversations with me: 2) respect differing opinions; 3) listen to what I have to say instead of brushing it off because they're right and I'm wrong.
I choose my friends' company because they respect me and continuously try to earn my respect just like I do for them. Of course, that's not to say I don't love my family. I do! And I really do like spending time with them sometimes.
I just prefer the company I keep.

Friends
It's always been very easy for me to make friends, and because I'm such an open book, even my newest of friends have some sort of understanding of who I am. This, of course, has been reinforced throughout the years as most of my friends, if not ALL of my friends, in my inner circle know me so well ( and I know them so well) that we don't have to speak to each other. We just know.
I don't think there's anything I wish they knew about me; I tell them practically anything anyway!
There are two wonderful people that know me better than I know myself and that's my sworn sibling and my sworn sister.
I've know my sworn sibling for 13 years and sworn sister for 8. They have seen me through the toughest of times and have loved me unconditionally. They are my chosen family that I am thankful to have.
