chara is a weird case bc he honestly idolizes them as a god and viewed them as infallible and they’re slowly, slowly starting to wind back and realize a lot of what they did/the plan was kind of Fucked Up. and that chara wasn’t perfect and nobody is. but they were still a good kid u know? 

it’s similar for the human (frisk). he has no idea how to feel about them bc... he projected all his chara feelings on them and in the end they tried to kill him like he was just some other monster. 

i feel as if, even before this fic, he cared about his parents still-- but i just relate heavily to like a “soft flowey” i guess haha. like. he feels very Distanced and cant say he really loves them anymore but he didn’t necessarily reap enjoyment from their pain, which was the most he could say he felt about anybody. it doesn’t mean he didn’t do bad things to them in the past, though. 

papyrus was one of the closest things to a genuine friend he had, and i feel as if he blurred too where his mask ended and his real self began. he tormented papyrus more than any other monster because of how interesting he found paps to be, but in his own twisted sense, torture and murder- and trying to get him to understand “kill or be killed”- was in sense like... affection.it meant he cared. the opposite of love to him was apathy rather than hatred, like hoo boy flowey cant STAND the idea of not meaning anything to anyone, especially frisk/chara. 

sans had longer arrows pointing in either direction but his status is absolutely prone to shift still. he started off far, far more to the right as the fic began but flowey has slowly begun to understand him more. mostly he just represents what flowey can’t understand, how like... a person can be multi-faceted and not necessarily make completely logic-based decisions rather than operating on feeling and what makes him happy.
