Rose consults her Grimoire. Then she goes outside and contemplates the season [S]. Rose prepares to confront her mother, but the reader gets psyched and we turn to TG, who is a few hours in the past.
TG gets introduced as Dave Strider. Dave messes around his room. He captchalogues the box with his Hash Map fetch modus. Dave then proceeds to talk to John about apple juice and Sburb. He goes on his browser and reads a Gamebro review, then looks at SBAHJ, then at Midnight Crew.
Dave then proceeds to chat with Rose about stuff. Meanwhile, John is trying to figure out what is leaving black oily smudges all over his house.
Dave drops some fresh beats [S], then tries to drink some applejuice. We learn Dave’s strife specibus is Bladekind. Dave captchalogues a ninja sword, which ejects apple juice out of his sylladex and spills over his turntables and copy of Sburb.
Dave goes to the bathroom and takes a towel, with which he cleans up. A crow flies in and tries to steal his copies of Sburb. Dave yells at it and accidentally ejects his sword, which kills the bird and flies his copy out of the window. Dave is ashamed.
We snap back to Rose, who is in the living room. She gets ready to confront her mom, captchaloguing an umbrella for later use. She goes into the kitchen and captchalogues a w. She then thinks about how to passively-aggressively one-up her mother and captchalogues a velver pillow her mother left there.
She gets surprised by Mom appearing and cleaning, so she escapes.
In the past, Dave patches up his window with tape. He then talks to GG, who is cryptic about her gift to John. Dave takes his phone.
Back in the present, John and Dave talk about what they are doing and call each other lame. John decides to read up on Data structures in case he has to fight monsters, which he doesn’t believe in. Meanwhile, Rose strifes with her Mom [S].
John is reading up on data structures when he gets attacked by an imp [S]. He ends up lying on the ground. Rose goes outside to look at the generator, which was struck by lightning. While John is fighting the imp. Rose proceeds to the mausoleum. John defeats the imp, who explodes into Build Grist and Shale.
