Muse: Christina (I don’t give her nearly enough attention; it was nice getting to journal about her today) 

So... This may sound childish, but I don’t really care. I’m a forensic scientist for 40 hours a week; I deserve my fun. 

I collect shiny things. Glitter, semi-precious metals and stones... basically if it catches my eye, I get it; there is no moderation. I have quartz and bismuth and all kinds of pretty things on my bedside table, and another fifty pieces or so inside one of the drawers. 

One time I was doing one of those silly little questionnaires online and I was asked ‘what mythical creature would you be if you could pick one?’. I was gonna go with ‘mermaid’ and then Nick comes in out of nowhere and jokes that my ‘affinity for hoarding shiny things’ would make me a dragon. ‘Indisputably’. And it’s been an ongoing joke since then. He put a little three-inch tall model dragon next to my gemstones to ‘protect my hoard’ while I’m at work. One time I brought home an emerald and he said “looks like Chrystophylax has returned with an addition to the hoard”. And when I gave him the confused face he continued, serious as can be, with “that’s your dragon name”.

Quick backstory on this one: I lived with my mom, stepdad, and two half-sisters as a kid. So my name is ‘Evans’ from my dad and the rest of ‘em are ‘Townsend’ from stepdad. I also happen to take after my dad, so I don’t look at all like anyone I used to live with. 

That being said, nobody who visited the house thought I was part of the family the first time they met me. It’s pretty normal for people to employ help on big ranches and such, so that was understandable. But anyway, every now and then someone would see me working in the field and ask me where the Townsends are, at which point I’d tell ‘em I’m Mr. and Mrs. Townsend’s son. Which leads me to the stupid question, and it’s one of the most insultingly stupid questions I have ever heard:
