Radiant Dawn 3-6 is actually easy if you don't have a bitch in your ear telling you the Dawn Brigade is a bunch of losers. A few of those losers are practically guaranteed to cap at least one of their primary stats during part 1 if you train them, and from there you can shore up their weaknesses with bexp abuse, and the Dawn Brigade can get a bunch of master seals throughout part 1 that actually make a big difference in 3-6.
I'm playing the game for the first time on Hard with my partner, so I'm not exactly playing blind, but I'm largely making my own decisions about what units to invest in and how. Here was my situation going into 3-6:
Edward had capped strength, speed, and skill as a myrm thanks to bexp abuse. He capped one during his training and the rest came from bexp abuse. Master Sealed him to be nearly strictly better than base Zihark(I think only his Res was lower, so for this map he essentially is strictly better than base Zihark). He was one rounding untransformed Laguz and able to take a hit from both the cats and the tigers and nearly kill on the counterattack
Aran also got some bexp abuse, but less than Edward, he basically just got The Aran Level like 7 times in a row(str+skill+def). Master Sealed to Halberdier, was getting doubled by cats but could still stand a round of combat with both and dish out solid chip.
Nolan got garbage level ups and was one of my only unpromoted units, but he still contributed here and there on untransformed Laguz and occasionally threw an axe at a transformed one.
Jill was my first master seal, back in part 1, but she competently held her own here despite not being exceptional stat-wise. She spent most of the map darting in and out of attack ranges and occasionally swapping fronts when there were issues.
Leonardo barely did shit in part 1 and had to get a bexp level before I could Master Seal him, which I did bc my partner was begging me to + he did solid chip against the Laguz with his personal weapon.
Volug got Strike rank in part 1 and was a key unit on this map, don't keep Wildheart on him. He was regularly taking on 2 transformed Laguz at once
Zihark got my Beastfoe scroll and I think that was the right choice, as it allowed him to competently fight transformed Laguz.
Sothe of course got the Beastslayer and had gotten decent strength ups in part 1. He wasn't quite one rounding transformed Laguz, but he came close
Perhaps most notably, my Micaiah also got a lot of bexp abuse in Part 1, and she was actually level capped by 1-E. As a result, she was one rounding untransformed Laguz by doubling them with Ellight, and of course dealing very solid damage to the ones in range. Plus the occasional heal staff.
Laura was also there, Physicing. She's a staff bot. Meg and Fiona sat it out bc I didn't feel like watching them die.
I think a lot of people struggle on this map because they invest heavily into Nolan, Jill, Volug, and Zihark and leave the rest by the wayside, leaving them with very few competent units to fight the Laguz. My guys weren't going beast mode and soloing a bunch of Laguz, but they didn't need to bc while it's hard for one pushed Nolan to one-round a tiger, a competent Jill, Aran, and Nolan can, and then Volug can shore up the flank. While most people consider this map the "hunker down and wait for the BK to save you" map, when mine showed up he couldn't even make it to the front lines before I was done, that's right, I was pushing into the fog and fighting the Laguz out there.
I don't think it would have been possible if I just had, like, Jill, Volug, Zihark and one DB scrub capable of fighting Laguz. I found maps like 1-E and 1-5 to be much harder than 3-6 on Hard, although that could very well be because I didn't use any of my power spikes in those chapters like stat boosters or a bunch of bexp, and I didn't lean hard on characters like BK and Nailah in 1-E(I only even brought the latter)
A couple of tactical notes as well, paying attention to gauges is the number one factor to succeeding in this chapter. Laguz move faster through the swamp when untransformed, so your ideal strategy is to keep them in the swamp as much as possible and pay attention to when they're about to transform or untransform. You can use ranged chip to manipulate their gauges as well. The Torch staff is a solid choice for this map too, especially if your Micaiah is combat-ready and capable of spending time close to the frontline. I could only afford it and the Beastslayer after buying a Master Seal in part 1(somebody who's good at budgeting help me figure this out lol). What I ended up doing was sending Micaiah, Zihark, Leo, Edward, and Sothe up north to push the Laguz hard, and Volug, Jill, Nolan, Aran, and Laura to mostly hold them in the east, eventually gaining ground through the swamp and the sacrifice of the green units. I theoretically could have held off and gotten more transformed Laguz kills, but I think I was at the last turn before I started taking Bexp penalties.
Bottom line: it's okay if you're not taking them to the endgame, you can still invest in DB units and make them into competent characters, and that'll give you an easier time in the part 3 DB chapters
