3=6, in its original meaning, means that a three cylinder, two stroke engine is the equivalent of a six cylinder, four stroke engine. Actually that’s not false, especially if you hear the sound that these engines produce. Das Schicksal meinte es nicht gut mit dem DKW 3=6 Monza. Das zweisitzige Sport-Coupé mit Kunststoff-Karosserie gehörte nie zum offiziellen Verkaufsprogramm von DKW, sondern entstand in Eigenregie einiger DKW-Vertretungen. Als das Werk den 1000 Sp herausbrachte, lieferte es keine Fahrgestelle mehr für den Monza. Nach 240 Monza kam 1958 das Aus.
Auftanken in den 50ern: Die beiden DKW 3=6 (Typ F93) tanken Zweitakt-Gemisch. Die Cabriolets wurden bei Karmann in Osnabrück gebaut. Von insgesamt 137.800 gebauten DKW 3=6 waren nur 1267 Cabriolets.
The DKW lineup. As part of the Auto Union that later became Audi, DKW was ahead of it's time. The model to the left, a DKW 3=6, was the first mass produced front engine/front wheel drive car. It became an inspiration for cheap motoring. There would be no Volkswagen Beetle without it.
