I must admit that so much of her fics were published before I was a very active reader in the fandom so she’s long been on my TBR list so I’ve only read The Flood I Saw Just Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, and while I’m extremely into the premise (more anal fic!!!) and execution, I think I ought to take this opportunity to commit to reading something new from her! I saw someone else recommend Pomegranate and I’m digging the Hades/Persephone vibes so that’s being added to my “Marked for Later” list right now!

I am so fond of her kink fic AND I like her vampire AU (coming from a person that does! not! like! vampire! stuff!) (Sorry Meg) (but seriously the part where he bites her is so sexy) but An Unexpected Kind Of Love is my fave. She filled my prompt with it and gave us the only JT/Annie fic this fandom has, AND IT’S SUCH A GOOD SHIP!!! This fic is utterly sweet and really underscores what I think makes them so compatible with each other. They have the same sense of humor and can roll with the punches in a way that’s completely charming. I loved how she worked off canon to deliver a pairing that works so well despite the fact that they’ve only had a couple scenes together. What a gem!

Ah, my first author where I haven’t tried any of their fics! Whoops! BUT I’m reading through all their summaries and they sound SO great? I’m committing to reading Dime Bags and Pretty Ladies by the end of the week. I love fics with stoned Brio and the excerpt looks so good! Can’t wait!

Ain't No Sunshine!!!! It took me far too long to read this fic and I regret it! I love fics where Beth and Rio hook up with other people when it’s so obviously still about Brio. I love how methodical and almost awkward Beth and Turner are with each other and how he sees Beth in a similar way that Rio does. It’s angsty and delicious and features such great details, like the blindfold and the mirror sex (!!!) and when Turner asks Beth if it’s better than it was with Rio (and Beth tells him no) (and then Turner’s not even offended because he gets off on the fact that she’ll always have a void inside of her) I dieeeeee. AND OH YEAH, SHE SLIPS IN A LITTLE RIO/TURNER MOMENT TOO WITH A SURVEILLANCE CAM. This fic tics all my boxes.

Okay, so, I answered this one here but I’ll talk up another: Drive You Mad! I reread it every few weeks, I love it so much. So many details stick out to me from this fic: the bug Rio kills that makes Beth think of Lucy, Rio getting jealous while watching Beth flirt with a target from afar, Sophie taking an opportunity to point out her favorite flaw of Rio’s (no ass), Beth rocking forward while tugging down Rio’s t-shirt while wearing her little mint green panties in a way that reminds him of her riding him, their first kiss being softer than it should be 😭😭😭, the want being a monster they can feed!!!!!!!, madonna in the morning and nymph at night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Rio making Beth finger herself and then ALSO INSERTING HIS FINGERS AND ASKING HER IF SHE CAN FEEL IT? HOW MUCH DEEPER HE GOES?????????????, MICK ACCIDENTALLY INTERRUPTING, BETH AND RIO FORGETTING AND GOING FOR ROUND 2, RIO CUPPING BETH SO THAT HER PANTIES GET SOILED WITH BOTH OF THEM, AND THEN TELLING HER TO KEEP WEARING THEM WHEN SHE GOES HOME TO SLEEP NEXT TO DEAN? It all lives in my mind rent-free.

Okay as much as I love Warm Water and best friends-to-lovers fics (with such excellent details as Beth stealing Rio’s favorite baseball tee, tequila nights, and sitting on Rio’s lap while watching the game!!!), I first fell in love with Jo’s take it and I don’t think it gets nearly enough attention for how delicious it is. I’ve read it... um.... many, many times, haha, and I love how confident Beth is, how electrifying it is, and how it just builds and builds and builds... and how cute they are in the aftermath. The eye contact during the spanking is my fave detail. Her mind!

How to choose between one billion fics?! She’s sold me on premises I never thought I’d get into (I resisted for so long but finally caved and read the one where Beth brings Rio back from the dead and it is stunning) but the one I always go back to is you let me complicate you. I’m a sucker for jealous!Rio, wall sex, public/outdoor sex, and when there’s a razor sharp edge between Beth and Rio, which this fic features exquisitely. I love how Beth has the opportunity to go home with a kind and decent and sexy man but she chooses Rio anyway (while he’s being an absolute dick no less!) And the end? Where Beth gets in her car and sends Rio a dirty photo? I blush. This fic is 🔥🔥🔥

Ooh, tough choice but I think I’d have to say Wrapped In Red? I basically love any time that these two exchange gifts, and I love the bubbling hope of promise at the end of it, and I love that Rio is privately touched that Beth made him something handmade, and I’m always a sucker for Beth and Rio being nervous over something really simple and normal? It’s a very soft fic, very quiet, and I love it for that!

An easier choice because there’s only two to choose from! While I was very impressed by her first fic and love a good PWP, I’ll have to go with don't get cut on my edges! I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone else do a therapy storyline with Beth, so I’m mega into that, and I’m also impressed by anyone doing dream sequences, and I love the details about the keepsakes that Rio has (including a scrap of Marcus’s baby blanket!!!) I’m 2 chapters behind on this fic but eager to catch up!

I’ve talked up miss me in your bones (and i still talk to you) many times and I still love it so much, buuuuuut I’m going to have to go with Bagel AU AKA looking for a lover (who will come on in and cover me). One, it hasn’t ripped my heart out and stomped on it (yet). Two, FWB TO LOVERS!!!! God tier trope. I can’t wait to find out what’s holding Beth back from committing, but I also like that there’s an ease and playfulness between them while there’s also still this barrier? Looking forward to chapter 2!!!

Truly a difficult choice as all of them make my heart E X P L O D E with joy (so many images of so many fics of hers are fighting for attention in my brain right now—the necklace! the lying on the ground on an ice rink! Beth sending Rio a clown emoji!) but I think I’d have to go with Heart & Soul. Truly an amazing blend of humor, sexiness, and softness. It’s just so warm.

I am a femalegothic stan. She writes masterful smut. It’s also a tough choice for me but I think Post Break-Up Sex edges out A Moment’s Silence by a hair. One: I’m extremely excited we’re getting more, and two: I’m a sucker for young!Brio. So many great details pop out from this fic, too, like Beth’s sunflower dress and the sunflower emoji text, the feel of Rio’s rings (whew), Beth putting on a shot for him. I also like the realism of it—like Beth nearly banging her head on the mirror. I think it could be a difficult premise to sell and feel in-character and she completely nailed it.

Jazz is the master of drama and I love her for it. The prompt-a-thon fic where she had Beth throw down in protective mama bear mode over a racist comment aimed at Marcus is excellent, but my favorite is definitely There’s Always a Choice. The premise is really fun and different and Jazz packs it full of angst (baby Marcus!!! Dylan does not deserve to even be in the same ROOM as him!!! And I’m still mad at Greg’s family for usurping Annie’s baby shower!). I also think she does a really good job of keeping her readers wanting more with her story structure, starting at the end and going back. I’m so invested!

I keep going back and forth between several different fics but I think I’m going to commit (while waffling) on waiting for someone who needs me AKA genie AU. It was a final contender with FOUR OTHER FICS so that’s a testament to how much I love her work, but I gotta admit, not a lot of people could sell me on a genie AU or even get me to read a fantasy AU, let alone love it, and she did so it gets +1 million points. I love how quiet this fic is, how oddly domestic, and how there’s a resigned acceptance to the absurdity. I love Beth’s refusal to make a wish (I stan a stubborn queen) and the smut is 🔥🔥🔥 Am completely fascinated because IIRC, stcs says that it wasn’t originally going to have smut so I am like—!!! How was it going to end?! Also it’s hilarious. When Beth assumes Rio lives in the lamp and Rio’s like, “Look at me. Look at the lamp. Look how big I am,” I cackle every time.

This one is easy because while I love ALL of her works, I was completely swept up and blown away by A Bit of a Stretch. As people know, I am a sucker for angst and iffy on fluff, but her fluff is so warm and genuine that I am completely smitten. Once again, the talent people have in this fandom to draw me to things I never knew I would love so much! The Rio POV here is gold and I absolutely love how she had Beth convince Rio to do couple’s yoga with Beth being all playful and cute and then blowing him before asking him, and I LOVE that Rio admires the strategy. I just really like how they mesh their worlds together in this fic, how it all ends up a disaster, and then SHE READ A BIT OF IT OUT LOUD WITH THAT VOICE MEME? AND SHE HAS THE VOICE OF A GODDESS????? AND IT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH IT ON A WHOLE NEW LEVEL???? Cannot handle it. If you haven’t read this fic yet, read it immediately. (And also, Gaby, please more Rio POV????)

Look, I know everyone loves the Pirate AU and the Pornstar AU and that she writes masterful novel-length canon divergent fics and that there are a million Playing House prompts that are more popular, but my favorite will always and forever be Give You All I’ve Got to Give. Yes, the one about how Rio and Beth fight about money. The one where Beth tries to take the kids’ old shoes to the cobbler, who tells her that they’re too worn, and she’s too embarrassed to admit it to Rio after being so stubborn that she acts insane and then all the shoes spill in the middle of the aisle and Rio drags her into the dressing room to fight with her out of sight of the kids, and Beth realizes that she’s still reacting to how much of her life has been unstable and in the lurch with money and that it’s taking her time to trust the stability of what she’s building with Rio. Rio soothes her and she makes him laugh, and it’s perfect. It strikes all my chords and I think completely baffles Sophie that it’s my absolutely favorite, but every time I read this fic I’m completely overwhelmed with the thought that this is what true love looks like. She’s truly the queen of domestic, established relationship fic and this is the story that solidifies that for me!
