Story time: I was instantly obsessed with Pokemon Sapphire when it was released back in 2002. While I will always love Kanto and Johto, there was something magical about the Hoenn region. It felt alive and discoverable, and the changes in game system, gameplay, and musical style breathed fresh air into an already incredible series.

What was "too much water" for IGN was infinite possibility and exploration for 9 year-old me. I adored the reflective ponds and lakes; I frequently ran and biked through puddles just to hear the little splish. I also spent a lot of time surfing in Hoenn. There was just so much to do in those vast ocean routes: catching, fishing, diving (and discovering eerie underwater chambers), battling, getting carried away by currents...and the Abandoned Ship.

What I love so much about the Abandoned Ship location is that it's not creepy. It's more a monument to travel and the past than a ghost ship. There's trainers running around and giving the ship presence, and leftover items gleam in the corners of empty rooms. Parts of the ship are totally sunken, leading you to dive deep and hear those lovely tones. I kind of get the same feeling from this area as I do looking at vintage travel posters.

The orchestral theme from the anime plays up the romanticism and feeling of luxury. I adore that theme, and I've listened to it far too many times! And then one day in the shower (more water?!) it hit me – this piece works perfectly as a tango, rhythmically and thematically. I got to work, and here is the result. Enjoy!
