A 2nd Lockdown for the UK
This week the UK goes in to a second national lockdown. Basically, as of Thursday you can’t do anything that you enjoy, but you can do all of the things that you don’t enjoy!
You can go to school and to work, mixing with people that you don’t really know. But you can’t go round your friends and families houses, who you do know!
Yeah! That makes sense.
But we need to protect the NHS! I hear you say. And yes you would be right. But lets not forget that the hospital admissions are still less than they were during the first lockdown. And the hospital coped with that. And don’t also forget that government are so concerned that they shut down the nightingale hospitals and still haven’t re-opened them - not that they got used last time remember!
Figures show that the number of people catching the virus are up when compared to last time. Well of course they are. It has something to do with testing. Something that we wasn’t doing last time.
We need time to develop a vaccine. This is a flu that we are talking about. Flu viruses mutate. This is the reason that you have to have a flu jab every year. Because the common flus about are a different strain to last year. But it is OK because when we get the vaccine we can all have it and be safe. Safe from a virus that has since mutated and is now a different strain. Hmm! I wonder why it is so hard to develop a vaccine.
What if? By dragging out this virus over such a long time it gives it chance to mutate in to something much deadlier? Usually over winter the majority will have caught a cold of lurgy and by spring it will have died out as we all become immune to it. This time though. This virus has had an entire year to mutate and to become a better virus. Maybe we should have just let it run its course. Those that survived were now better prepared for the next one. And those that didn’t - didn’t. It sounds harsh. But that is really what survival of the fittest is about.
Anyway. On a brighter note. As a key worker my drive to work will be much easier again!
Have fun
What if you found an old Daniel Johnston montage-recording and had Sonic Youth add some line-in guitars? Obviously something good would come of that and the sound isn’t too far away if you listen to what Soft Walls put out this summer.
A lot of this sound reminds me of an even more lofi version of Ulrika Spacek, and it’s clear there’s had to be some inspiration coming from the same kind of places.
This track, Misperception, not only being an amazing diy lofi gem, also makes me want to pick up many more tunes with the act and you can dive right in there with me as well - https://softwalls.bandcamp.com/
There’s plenty of amazing tunes to keep your spirits up during what could become the 2nd lockdown of 2020.
Best of luck to all of us, go pick up some Soft Walls and be kind to your neighbour <3
