Post #83: “I wonder” per Angelika’s solo exhibition poster (Scale/Proportion: Final).
1. Rather than forming statements or opinions, you should write questions about the work and what the show might be.
The advertisement for Angelika’s solo exhibition is called efflorescent. This term may be used in relation to flowers blooming. Therefore, it appears that this shows’ theme is based on flowers and/or a concept revolved around blooming (in this case, blooming could also be a more personal occurrence; the flowers might simply signify this happening within a person, a situation, etc. In addition, blooming signifies growth and this exhibition may be working with these ideas interchangeably.
2. Knowing what you know about the artist’s work, you should ask questions (look @ their Tumblr).
My questions for the artist:
-Were you inspired by any of your favorite artists?
-What were you thinking when you chose this color combination? Do you think these colors work well together in the order that you put it?
-Did you intentionally choose these specific flowers in your poster? Was it random or flowers that you know about and did research on?
3. Research the institution.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is an exhibition hall that incorporates performances, contemporary art, sculptures, videography, and more. This exhibit may work in this institution due to the museum’s acceptance of various media.
4. What is the poster saying?
The poster is revolved around the theme of blooming and growth. To be more specific, efflorescent is described as “reaching an optimum stage of development.” This relates to the concept of something or someone blooming/growing/developing.
