Just a few extra bits to add on about the Ash London incident.
The interview with Louis on 2DayFM was pre-recorded and when it aired, Ash London and her two cohosts (the vile Ash Williams and the even more vile Ed Kavalee) did a deplorable intro where they made the disparaging comments you’ve already referred to - ratty facial hair, the least popular one, etc.
As it was pre-recorded, Louis wasn’t present to defend himself, not that they would’ve dared say any of it if he had been there. One of the Louis UAs managed to record the segment including the intro and posted the audio. The fandom rallied to Louis’ defense and while for the most part the response was simply supportive of Louis, London also received a lot of hate and threats.
London went private on Twitter and the Australian media went into attack mode against Louis and his fans. London did briefly come back to Twitter to post a couple of statements, but as she didn’t apologize or take responsibility for what had happened, it just chucked more fuel on the fire. Louis heard the recording, saw what was happening on Twitter, and then tweeted “Probs best to stay on private for a bit longer love!”.
2017 had been a rough year for Louis with the LAX incident in Feb and this just gave the media the perfect excuse to dig it all up again and so they kept rolling out horrible, tabloid, vitriolic, trash.
London lost a number of appearance gigs and a TV hosting spot and it took her years to regain her footing in the industry. Was it her fault? Yes and no. I mean, it should never have happened at all, but I also think she probably got some shit advice about how to handle it at the time. Ultimately, she didn’t own what had happened, it was her show, and the fandom didn’t respond well to that, but Ash Williams and Ed Kavalee got away free and clear and they absolutely should not have.
Louis hasn’t done any promo with the station or their affiliates since, which is why he basically sticks to Smallzy’s show on Nova FM when he does Australian radio interviews.
