i often wonder

is it a puppets string

or the movement of muscle memory

must the action precede the intent

or does it blur with the thick layer of time

what is memory

is it a machine that walks

or a house that holds

i wouldnt know any better

for i suffocate joyfully

thick cushioning around me

being swaddled and cradled

ever had your heart sink

and then meet your gut

blood and gore don't phase you but

the thought of digesting

a pain

a grief that never was

you birthed it because you think

you cared for it

what is a child if not a fleshy manifestation

your softest dreams and scariest love

what is anxiety if not a package of grief

from a future you never wanted

you gather your mind from slipping

through the cracks and kiss it to bed
