Alliance Orchid Springss Apartment on Temple Land: ₹2500 Crore Fraud Alleged, 2036 Families in Crisis
A major property controversy has shaken Chennai after a civil court ruled that the land on which the Alliance Orchid Springss Apartment complex stands actually belongs to a temple. The massive residential project, located in Korattur, is home to 2,036 families who now say they have been cheated in a ₹2,500 crore fraud.
What Is the Issue?
The apartment complex was developed by a private construction firm originally known as Alliance Orchid Springs, which residents claim is now operating under the name Urban Rise.
A petition filed in a civil court claimed that the land on which the apartments were built actually belongs to a temple. After hearing the case, the court ruled in favor of the temple, declaring that the land is temple property.
This verdict has left thousands of residents in shock.
Residents Say They Were Kept in the Dark
According to residents, many purchased their homes between 2014 and 2018 through bank loans. In 2015, concerns were raised that the land’s patta (ownership document) was in the temple’s name. However, buyers allege that the builder assured them it was a minor issue caused by an official error and promised to resolve it.
When residents attempted to register their homes in 2018, they faced difficulties. They were reportedly told the issue would be fixed within six months. Later, title deeds were issued in the company’s name, leading residents to believe the matter had been settled.
But the legal battle continued.
Court Verdict Changes Everything
Since 2018, a civil case has been ongoing. Now, with the court ruling that the land belongs to the temple, residents say they are unable to sell their properties.
Worse still, many who bought their flats through bank loans are reportedly receiving notices from banks. Some claim banks are pressuring them for additional documents, stating that the current property holds “zero value” due to the ownership dispute.
₹2500 Crore Allegation
The affected families allege that over ₹2,500 crore was collected by the builder by constructing and selling apartments on disputed temple land. They have now filed a formal complaint at the Chennai DGP office demanding:
A criminal case against the builder
A proper investigation into the land ownership
Compensation or buyback of the apartments by the builder
“We Want Justice”
One resident, speaking to the media, said they have been living in the apartment complex since 2014 and feel completely betrayed.
“2036 families are suffering. We took loans, invested our life savings, and now we are being told our homes have no value,” residents said. They are demanding immediate government intervention.
