Happy 243rd Birthday to our great @usnavy! Humphrey Bogart learned how to sail from his father, and he dropped out of high school to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWI. Bogie’s life-long love of sailing and the Navy was obvious both in his film roles and his real life. Today in history - 1775, the U.S. Navy was established by a resolution of the Continental Congress. This 1942 Pennsylvania Railroad advertisement featured the role of railroads in “helping the Navy launch victory!” During World War II, railroads transported supplies to shipyards and carried military personnel to their destinations. From 1939 to 1944, the volume of freight traffic more than doubled and the volume of passenger traffic quadrupled. Then and now, railroads serve the nation.
