And the word of the week:

My poem for last week has this word too can I use it twice? T.T

Ezra resurfaced gasping for breath. He’d been knocked clean off his board by the last wave and the wipe out had zapped him of all his remaining energy. He was beat. 

Retrieving his board, he made his way back to the shore. He stalked over to the pile of bags and towels and stuck his board in the sand. Ava was lying face down on a beach towel. She didn’t move. She was either taking a nap or ignoring him. He didn’t mind either way. 

Grabbing a drink from the cooler, he sank into the sand. At the sound of the can opening, Ava groaned and rolled over onto her back. 

"Ughhh!! Can you be any louder?”

Ezra’s features reflected Ava’s annoyed look. He couldn't even have a drink in peace. He turned to her and belched loudly. Smiling at her disgust he finally responded, “Sure...if that's what you want.”

“Sure…if that’s what you want,” she repeated, in a mocking tone. 

He took a loud slurp and she groaned again before flipping back onto her belly and turning her head away from him. Sipping his drink, he scoured the shore for Adam, Sam and Maya. He squinted against the harsh sunlight until he finally made out three familiar figures on the other side of the beach. They were playing volleyball with a random group of people. Ezra grimaced. Sam was terrible at sports, although what he lacked in hand eye coordination, he made up for in enthusiasm. 

Ava flipped over again and sensing her watching him, he let the smile of fondness on his face slip away as he pulled out book two on his summer reading list. He was already so far behind.

“I forgot how much of a nerd you are.”

Ezra shot her an unimpressed look.

“What? It’s true.”

Ezra turned to his book without another word.

Twenty minutes later, his drink was done, but the main character was about to do something incredibly stupid. Ezra shut the book in frustration, almost startled by his surroundings. He took a deep breath of sea air and marveled that he was at the beach and not in some dense forest in the dead of night. He was about to attempt to read again when something caught his eye.

It’s week 1! This is 12. Towel

Like I’m sure if I didn’t say what it was no one would know. These are my three attempts. The first one was supposed to be a rolled towel but I find that it looks more like a rug. 

The one in the middle was supposed to be my towel hanging over my cupboard door. 

As is obvious, my favourite is the beach towel. I coloured it in and tried to do a bag next to it (yes that’s what that beige lump is supposed to be).

I’m honestly very happy with my results. It only took me about half hour if not less and it was fun. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Happy New Year All!

I’m doing a creative challenge this year. One of my goals has been to spend more time developing my creative interests: music, writing and I’d like to pick up doodling. I really struggled for inspiration last year, especially with my writing, and I figured a challenge might give me both inspo and motivation.
